Thumbs down Dealership Experience

So I took my car into the dealership for them to make sure my SVX was okay to go to the keys. I wanted them to tell me where the exhaust leak was. They told me it wasn't the exhaust, it was the water pump. So I buy a new waterpump, and once they have my car apart, they call me again and tell me it might not be the waterpump making all the noise, but a bad idler pulley. So I order one of those.... so then since the engine is apart they want to put in the water pump anyway for preventative maintenence, so okay fine. Then they tell me the middle timing belt cover is warped, so they need a new one.

So then, I get my car back.... I drive it for a bit, it starts smoking, and I pop the hood. Coolant everywhere. The upper radiator hose is BARELY on. The retard mechanic didn't put it all the way on the neck of the radiator before he clamped it. So I fixed that. I checked the coolant reserve level, and it was okay, so I figured I didn't lose much coolant. I drove my car again, and I almost crapped my pants as the temperature needle suddenly jumped into the 'red zone'. I pulled over. There was ZERO coolant in the resevoir, as the thermostat must have opened and sucked it all in. So while waiting for coolant, I noticed that the wiring harness protecting plastic piece near the alternator and AC compressor is smashed and installed wrong, and the fans ....argh.. one of the bolts holding my passenger side fan in is SUPER loose, and on the other fan they torqued it down so bad it CRACKED the fan housing.

I am PISSED.

I would have got on the horn at that exact moment and demanded they pick up the car on a flatbed, at their expense, and make repairations immediately! That is totally inexcusable and the mechanic should be fired. I'm pissed off for you right now!

See, all those suggestions are completley valid, but they're all ignoring ONE THING. TIME! I was supposed to leave on the honeymoon YESTERDAY...

Subaru of Schaumburg did this same thing to me. They said that the hose was too old and cracked and need to be replaced. Then they tried to convince me not to drive the car home because it could catch a fire and should take one of their loaner which they will charge me a certain amount per day. I drove the car home anyway and took it directly to my mechanic. All he did was, trimmed the hose and tightened the clamp. The problem was fixed.

I have enough of the dealer's BS.

Dealers! Sorry to hear that Rob.

PS: I had to supply the part number to our Suby dealer across the bay to get the little retainer clip for the power window. They said it didn't exist. Then they shipped the wrong part. I made them overnight the correct peice at their expense. I had to take that to the top to get it done.

Nevermore.

re: sorry rob

sorry rob, i'd make a crack at ya, but i know the feeling. make them give you a rental suby while they fix all of that. i would. i've done some crazy stuff at a dodge dealership service department before. not mentioning details but i know i scared the hell out of them before for major screw-ups.

i'de make damn sure i complained long and loud to the dealer. the mechanic (i use the term loosely) who worked on your car should't be allowed to do that to another subaru owner!

So it seems that knowledge about the SVX is lacking at MOST friggin' Subaru Dealers. I too have had ugly experiences. One mechanic looks at me dumbfounded and says :' What's an SVX?" I could have throttled him on the spot. *Sigh*

re: well i got turned away from a dealership

classic subaru in roswell, ga. turned me down for service. and all i wanted was an inspection for my first svx. at least they were honest enough to say...'we don't know poop about the svx. sorry we can't service you.'
