Video File Help
Anyone know how, or know what program to use (if any) that will rotate video files (avi, mpeg)? I have some clips that need to be rotated either clockwise or counter clockwise. From what I understand is that ImageReady can do it in a matter of series of files added together to make the movie (which sounds like a PITA!!)...

If you have a PC, then Movie Maker 2 will do it for you very easily, and it's free

The question is will Movie Maker 2 work for Windows 2000?

Sorry MM2 only works with XP. You will have to upgrade your OS or buy an editing package.

Most problems with XP are when installed over an existing operating system or when the system performance is insufficient.
Any poor performance is usually due to a lack of maintenance. My pc on XP has been 100% for over a year, and early glitches were down to me. I had forgotten about virtualdub, a wonderful program. The only problem can be if you have vbr audio. This can be overcome with virtualdubmod.

Ok I tried virtualdub and it wont allow me to take a mpeg and convert it into another mpeg. It only allows me to convert my mpeg file to avi... Any ideas?

Go to video/compression and make your choice

Andy (a.k.a technical support!) you seem to know what your're talking about.. I tried that and I'm still having some difficulties. I have 4-5 video clips that I need to rotate. The rotation is quite simple as you decribed above. I went to video/Compress as you mentioned. I'm a little perplexed on which one to chose. I tried the PICvideo MJPEG Codec. However, I just get sound when I view it on Windows MEdia Player. What can I be doing wrong?

Picking the proper codec is ALWAYS the fun part

Due to licence restrictions on mpeg formats you may need TMPGEnc which will allow you to encode in mpeg 1 and 2 (free trail available) Could you let us know why you need this as an mpeg and what you are going to do with it, as this will effect the method used.

I have a video mode on my digital camera. The video shots were taken in the potrait position.

They will probably be mpeg1 or mpeg4. Virtualbub will allow you to re-encode as mpeg4 or convert to avi and recompress as mpeg1 with TMPGEnc.
If you just want to keep it on your pc as a compressed file use Windows Media Encoder (free download)
