That's cause he used a 5 speed froma 2003 forester. It is only for 2003 up 5 speeds. (That is Phil, PhastSVX from the network)

So do you have to use the 2003 axles, or does some hybrid have to be created? |

its only for the 03 forester 5 speed that you need different axels, its the v4/v5 STi gearbox so it has different connections, the axles swapped in directly.

Another thing I don't know about (just one of "billions & billions" of things I don't know) is if anyone ever determined that a WRX or other tranny did away for the need to lengthen the driveshaft?
Anybody know? well here's another one I don't know already. I have the LSD in my 92 LS-L, but if I put in a different unit (from a Legacy say) can it be just a flat out swap assuming I gave up the LSD (are you listening Tim Leary - sorry off-topic)? Do the gears have to be swapped? Not sure I'm asking this right, but hopefully somebody understood. |

5 speed shifter.
I just got emailed by subaruparts.com. They reported that the new close ration 5 speed STI short-throw shifter swaps to 93-03 Impreza/98-03 Forester/ 95-03 legacy. Listed at $243.53. |

The price he was quoted was for the whole linkage, not just the shifter itself. The Cobb you are referring to is just the shifter.
