We looked at buying a Sera once. We thought it would look cool parked next to the SVX.

It's very cramped inside and the boot [trunk] is tiny and mostly taken up with stereo equipment. You couldn't even fit a small suitcase.

The performance is nothing special, but apparently it has standard Corolla mechanicals so you can put bigger engines into it. But the insurance companies would hammer you for that in this country.

I'd still quite like one though...

Phil.

Now I didn't say what [if any ] sex the hairdresser had to be.

And don't forget I'm Irish. That should be list. As in listing to starboard.

The Honda CRX is a bit of a hairdresser's car too. But with the saving grace that you can get one with 160-180 bhp. That's hairy chested medallion man motoring for sure. Unless you been waxed.

Oh yeah, good call, Don.

I was actually thinking of something a little closer to home. Ever heard Randy give his speech about a certain SVX site and it's purpose and orgins?

Actually, no you couldn't. Here in the states, the MOST HP that honda ever stuffed into a CRX was a measly 91 horsepower with an equally pathetic 93 ft lbs of torque. In japan, the CRX got up to 135hp at one point. Here's a link for you:

Enjoy!

My buddy's CRX had about 180hp. That is an engine on a piece of paper.

Did you guys not get the CRX with the two seats, mechanical fold-down roof, and 1.6 twin-cam vtec engine? That had around 160 hp. Was called the SiR in Japan.

Angry Irl 2

Know how you feel Don.

Here in Ireland we sometimes get Japanese cars before England or Europe. We are a "test market". Not having an indigenous car manufacturing industry, we are different from the rest.

In England they will buy Fords and Rovers and Vauxhalls because they are perceived as British. In France it's Citroen and Renault get the patriotic vote, in Italy Fiat etc etc. In Ireland we are neutral and non chauvinistic. We will only buy them if they are good, hold their value, do the business, doesn't matter who makes them.

However, our tax regime penalises big engines, we have very high taxes on all imported cars. So our pre-tax price tends to be low to keep the cost to buyer reasonable. So the importers bring them in without things like electric windows, sunroofs, two airbags and so on.

We traditionally pay 30-50% more for the same car as England, and ours will come with less equipment.

<Grouch mode OFF>

OK, that's me for the day

Joe
