Doug and I had a conversation about that, recently. Some men drive big SUVs or expensive cars to compensate.

The reverse is also true, you see. The Justy is a friggin' chick magnet!

We shall see if the Dodge Omni proves to be one as well.

Hmmm... THE AMAZING PSYCHIC RANDY!!! My daughter just, (three weeks ago) drove another indestructible car ('91 Escort) from Ellicott City to Sacramento, where she started a new job. I'm not making this up!

Ron, (Dave Barry wannabe).

Oh! That's just toooo strange.

My original Subaru ('80 AWD Wagon) had torsion bars. Very cool. It'd go from lowrider to monster mudder in about ten minutes.

Actually, I cranked it up once for an off-road/mud rally (Really! It ran through some very soggy cornfields.), and ended up driving around two big ol' tire'd trucks stuck in a muddy field. Neither of their drivers said a word to me at the after-rally party. 'Course, they got there late, after I'd already gone home.

The Omni can't be called SVX Jr. because it isn't even a Subaru!

(I think the rims would fit on my Justy though )

Thumbs up Right on Ron!

<The Omni GLH is still on my all time "Cheap thrills" list>

Before the SRT-4, there was the Omni "Goes Like Hell"...

Ask someone (as if they would ADMIT it) that got suckered in at a stoplight by one of those.

Does the name "Shelby" ring a bell?

Perhaps one of the great "sleeper" cars of all time; not just my opinion, but several of the car magazines. Don

Don, if you're referring to the Dodge Lancer Shelby version, then it too was on my list. Those things are rarer than a 200K SVX on its original wheel bearings.

Ron (will kill for a cheap thrill).

Actually he was probably referring to the OMNI GLH, Shelby Charger, and Shelby Charger GLHS. They were all the brian-children of Good 'Ol Carroll Shelby when he followed his long time friend, Lee Iaccoca to Chrysler. Started in 1983, the first Shelby charger was born by taking beefier suspension and brake parts off of other Chrysler vehicles, like the caravan and Aries and putting them on the lightest car they had at that time. A few fancy rubber trim pieces and a eye popping paint job and you have a winner!

Over the next few years, the engine and transmission were beefed up making it a very strong street contender. Chrysler then applied the Shelby name (against his request) to other vehicles like the Lancer and even the Dakota truck.

Carroll Shelby said in an interview a few years ago that the Shelby Charger is still one of his favorite vehicles and he still drives his on a regular basis.

Thumbs up

Congrats on your purchase, Doug! <reaches up for a high-5> I have waxed on in previous threads of my beloved '80 Horizon. Best little beater/fun car I've ever owned. WIth a 1.7 VW engine, a 4-speed and some minor intake and exaust mods it was quick too. Would get rubber in 3rd gear. Smoked many a 2.2 charger even when I had 3 full sized passengers with me. Had superb balance and with high pressure shocks it was an excellent jumper and always landed like a cat and never bottomed out.

Don't trash that misfit. Sell it to Ron and throw in a lifetime supply of door handles and rear wheel bearings just for good measure (they're both really easy to replace, Ron). Definitely not the best car I've ever owned but it was full of good memories of good times. <wipes a tear from his eye>

I miss ya "little brown jumping bean"!

Straight banana

Johnny,

Glad to hear you were a Horizontalist in your youth, i.e. laid back and no hangup about the size of your mojo.

Back in '83 I crashed the nose of mine into my father's porch [yes, that's porch, not Porsche. Don't ask.].
I drove to Kerry with the injured motor, about 200 miles of main road. It was the fastest car on the road that day, and all weekend. Drivers took one look in the mirror at the pugilistic nose and broken headlamp and traffic just melted to one side. They either figured I took no prisoners, or else had nothing to lose by hitting them.

Mad Max spotted on way to Dingle!

Way to go.

Joe
