Re: Finally bought one of my dream cars...

having good luck with cars this year!

had SST and differential fluid done at dealer, bill was WAY less than i was expecting, so at least that was good.

installed LED lights for the DRL's - they look pretty nice and if you ever need to change these bulbs, you'll never want to do it again.

not as blindingly bright as the camera at night makes it look. i like 'em!

ACD pump failed a few months ago. got a new one, sprayed it with zinc galvanized rustproof coating, and made a (better than expensive JDM) pump cover out of a $4.99 rubber floormat.

what's new with your Evo?

Alan,

Your Evo is looking very sharp! Love the ACD pump covering that you added.

Not much is new on my end. Got 50% Formula1 black ceramic tint all the way around. Also getting an ETS catback exhaust for the car in the coming weeks. I won't order it until the wetaher gets nicer and I can install it the same weekend.

Cheers,

Cool. Had exhausts done on other cars, and they're fun sometimes, but this is my daily driver, so I cant do it. Keeping it mostly quiet and stealthy. I must be getting old. maybe a Lincoln next?

I'll have to get a better pic of the DRL's ... They really look nothing like the one I posted. I'll try a daylight pic when I get a chance.

Re: Finally bought one of my dream cars...

I'll have to get a pic of m car with the 50% tint...it looks nice without being ricer.

I'm actually going with the ETS Quiet V2 catback exhaust system - so a high-flowing quiet exhaust without the loud noise and drone.

It's also just 29lbs - so there's a slight weight savings over stock.

nice option - i'm most likely only keeping it for another year or two, so no sense dumping more money in. i do like a nice exhaust growl once in a while, though - just not on my drive to work every day.

next car .... ??? kinda looking like a CVT WRX, as boring as that sounds. a BRZ w/AWD and more power would be an awesome DD for me, but Subaru is dumb.
wife is also going to need a car this year - debating on Forester vs Forester XT - worth the extra money for the power (that she never uses vs. gas mileage). then, keep her 2005 XT as a winter beater and get a sports car for me? too many variables to deal with .....

Gotcha - if changing cars in another 1-2 years I also wouldn't dump more money than required into a daily driver.

I must say a CVT WRX doesn't light my boat. I do like the 2015 STI but I'd like to see Subaru put the direct injection 2.0L engine in that car and ditch the 2.5L.

If I had a winter beater at my disposal, a 2-seat Porsche Boxster/Cayman or used 996 911 GT3 would be at the top of my wish list!

yeah i hear ya, but i don't want to deal with a stick - the drive to work can be a crawl sometimes. STI needs a DSG!!! not even sure how much power the CVT can hold - i'd definitely would be doing at least a stage 2 on it to keep it somewhat comparable to how the Evo feels .... assuming it can safely handle it without blowing up.
i was set on a 996 turbo, but reliable Japanese cars have made me lazy. plus they get around 13mpg city - which is what i'd be getting 98% of the time.

i wish i would have installed a backup camera in the Evo when i got it. i'm not going to bother at this point, but the high belt line and not-so-great turning radius make parking it a pain sometimes.

Thanks man. She's been good to me and I'm literally averaging 24+ mpg on my way to work each day.

I should have bought one of these cars a long time ago...

Re: Finally bought one of my dream cars...

I installed the ETS quiet catback exhaust this week! Car sounds amazing and my morning commute just got 10x more enjoyable.

Install was smooth and I put it up on ramps this morning and everything looked good with no leaks. I'll post some pics this weekend - they're not joking when they say this exhaust has perfectly centered tips.

i was about to say, "i bet your neighbors love you", but then i saw it was the ETS quiet.

wife's FXT s**t the bed - low compression in #2 & #4 cylinder ... at 71k miles of being properly maintained and her gentle driving.
test drove a '15 Forester and XV, was very "meh" - interior seems cheaper than her '05. plus i'm not very happy with Subaru right now. after much looking and test driving we got .... a 2015 Outlander Sport 2.4L AWD GT.

if you would have told me 5 years ago i'd own 2 Mitsubishi's, i'd laugh in your face!

its the best kept secret in small SUV's. Super-wide HID's, FWD/AWD auto/4x4 lock modes, CVT w/paddle shifters, keyless entry and push button start, voice commands, 710w Rockford Fosgate system, panoramic LED moonroof, 18" wheels, rain sensing wipers, 5yr/50k bumper-to-bumper and 10yr/100k powertrain warranty. for $24k - Forester doesn't come near that. preferred the exterior and interior styling better, too. the AWD modes were interesting - don't need it 90% of the year, just wastes gas.

she wanted something smaller like her '05 Forester (we have no kids or herd of large dogs, and i'm not a contractor or farmer), and the Forester grown larger over the years. probably not for everyone who wants bigger capacity, or doesn't live anywhere near a Mitsu dealer, but it works good for her.

not the actual car, but Mercury gray like this:

i sprayed the ACD pump i had installed with a galvanized zinc anti-corrosive coating, and made my own custom pump cover out of a $5 rubber floor mat - should be good to go for quite some time. got refunded by Mitsu for part and labor under warranty. other than that, nothing to report other than its still a blast to drive after almost 4 years.
