Just watched MotorWeek they tested the BRZ AUTO . Not really quick. 15.9 sec 1/4 mile 90 MPH 0 to 60 7.7
Now looking at the Toyota AFT 86 II , has a flat 2 Liter Subaru motor..

Re: Motor week

I saw one last week - surprisingly it was more meh in real life. I thought a car like that might be more attention-grabbing, but i nearly drove past it without noticing.

2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS Sedan: 0-60 mph 7.7 Quarter Mile 15.7

So.. That means it is as slow as 2.5RS coupe 5 speed. Sounds to me like it cost about $6,000 to much then..

Re: Motor week

MW did point out that the manual transmission Scion they'd tested was quicker. Seems they tested the Suby primarily to draw a comparison between transmission choices, and flatly preferred the manual.

They also made it clear that this car is engineered for sport driving, not straight-line performance.

Re: Motor week

Saw it last night - braking was pretty sad for such a lightweight sports car.

How good/bad compared to the SVX? And, say, your Evo?

Re: Motor week

Motortrend tested the quarter mile to be 14.9 s, lateral acceleration to be 0.94 g and braking to be 115 feet. They tested the 2012 Miata at 14.9 s, 0.92g and 116 feet. The Miata is more expensive. Seems like the BRZ is in-line with its prime competitor.

ID88, the Lancer Sportback is a better comparison (although still about $3000 more expensive due to it being a turbo AWD). MT tested it in 2010 and the quarter mile was 14.2 s, the lateral acceleration was 0.84g and the braking was 115 feet.

115 feet for EVO, "even after many hard laps at West Virginia's Summit Point Raceway, there was little fade or loss of power." MUCH heavier car, though.

48 feet for the the SVX.

Are you implying that an Impreza RS coupe sucks at turns?

I don't care how well the BRZ turns, it wont matter if it is 2 secs slower just getting to the first turn..

I was thinking about getting one of these when my lease is up in October, but it suffers from the same problem my RS did, lack of power, BRZ needs a turbo...

The biggest flaw people have when evaluating cars is that they look at the numbers, i.e. armchair race car drivers. The BRZ is not a numbers car... it's a drivers car. It is a hell of a lot more engaging to drive around a track than a NA Impreza is. A turbo is not part of the formula for the BRZ... a smooth power band and optimum handling is what the BRZ is about. It amazes me how many people (even on car enthusiasts boards) don't get it.

And yes, an Impreza is a bit of a hog around the track. It plows into turns and understeers through. AWD doesn't help much on a road coarse. This is coming from a guy that drove a 2002 WRX for 4 years and a 2006 STi for 5 years.
