Re: Headsets Recommendation

I don't like the bluetooth earpieces either, although my Plantronics Discovery 975 works quite well. The Plantronics do not have ear hooks so they do not interfere with glasses, sunglasses, etc

Since the SVX is a quiet car and anyone in the car with me could hear at least half of any conversation, I now use a visor mounted handsfree speaker. Allows me to change volume and switch between phone and speaker easily. Speaker quality is very good, loads of talk time and the prices are coming down.

Re: Headsets Recommendation

Hi John,
Could the wiring to the visor intended for the lighted mirror be used to power one of these?

Re: Headsets Recommendation

You have a speaker mounted to a SVX sunvisor? Are you crazy.

It has 36 hours of talk time and about 30 days of standby. Comes with a 12V car USB charger and can be charged using any USB source. Just occasionally plur it in to your cigarette lighter.

Actually, I have it clipped on to the visor "backwards" so that the unit is at the front of the visor (closest to the windshield). No strain on the visor at all. Much lighter than it looks.

You can also position it normally and slide the unit to the farthest (closest to the pivot) for added strength.

Or anywhere in the car, like the molding above the driver's door, etc.

Re: Headsets Recommendation

OK, good thing I don't do that...

That must be in a completely different section of the vehic code, I found nothing about that when I was researching the cell phone usage.

^My vote, especially if you still have the stock HU. When I change out the one in my black car, I'll be looking for one with BT for myself as well. And single din so I can put a pocket and actually store small objects like sunglasses without them getting destroyed! (Or, more likely, trapped beside the seats, never to be seen again.) But I digress...

Re: Headsets Recommendation

I drive multiple cars so buying something tied to one vehicle is not going to happen, also the Mazda 6 console is not too aftermarket friendly. (nor is the Mazda 5 for that matter) The SVX already has a new single DIN. It has the iPod input but no bluetooth, and yeah the pocket is nice. I used to hold 4 CD cases in there, no it just holds the iPod.

Re: Headsets Recommendation

"Are you one of the millions guilty of driving while talking on your cell phone.

Hi, Billy Mays here for the Jupiter Jack. The most convenient hands free device for any cell phone guaranteed.

Just plug it in and mount it on the dash. Preset your radio to 99.3 FM, and you're ready to go.

Jupiter Jack transmits quality sound through the speakers of your car. Instead of hearing music, you hear the other person. No plugs, no wires, no hands.

Re: Headsets Recommendation

hey my friend has Jupiter jack and he got it for like $5 and he said it really isn't all that bad. If it keeps you legal (and on a tight budget) what the heck...

I just bought the 'Plantronics Voyager Pro plus' a few days ago. Pretty happy with it.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/tech-data/B0043EV20G

Even happier to have found it online at a reduced price rather than buying it in store while at Best Buy for $106.

I got it on Amazon and had it shipped 2 day air and it was still $17 cheaper.

This is probably one of the most douchiest sets money can buy, but nothing else comes close for comfort in this price range. I've read some reviews that claim the wearer forgets it is there, and I agree with them. Could be a touch louder in my car because of my exhaust, but it's not bad. Actually most of the reviews I've read are pretty spot-on.

I still have long hair, though, so it doesn't look so douchey on me since you can't really see it. :P
Your douchiness may vary.

Re: Headsets Recommendation

I have the motorola IHF 1000 in both of my Audis. I was able to interface it through the original factory car phone wiring in both cars so it is completely integrated. I know the SVX is prewired for a car phone, so perhaps something similar could be worked out. The unit is AWESOME. The voice quality both ways is fantastic.

A guy in Brooklyn was selling them for under $50 brand new. That's where I got mine.

My favorite is the plantronics. Get the one with the earpiece that goes inside your ear so you'll be able to hear with the window down.
