1996 SVX transmission

I really want to move this thing out of my garage. Long story short: I bought a wrecked SVX and was pleased to see that the transmission looks to be recently rebuilt. The car did run and drive, I test drove it and saw/felt no issues, it shifted nice and firm through all gears. Fluid was clear and looked new when drained. It had an aftermarket trans fluid cooler on it as well.

Looking to get $350 plus shipping for it. This is priced well below what I have seen around the SVX forums, but I'll accept offers. I don't know what shipping will run, send me your zip and I'll do some checking. I would estimate about $150-200 to get it to you via truck freight.

What made you think it was rebuilt?

Re: 1996 SVX transmission

It's priced well under what a rebuilt transmission would go for due to the fact that I cannot say 100% that it was rebuilt. There are many signs that it was, at the very least, very recently removed and reinstalled.

It was 100 times cleaner than any other part of the car, has paint pen markings on the torque converter and the top of the transmission, fluid was brand new, and the auxillary aftermarket trans cooler looks new. Judging by the parts on the rest of the car, it seems that this SVX was maybe parked for a while (maybe due to a bad transmission) and had recently been brought back to life before it got wrecked.

I've never seen a junkyard swapped part that looks this clean. This thing was run through a parts washer.

Re: 1996 SVX transmission

Im really looking for a 4.44 or 4.11 but If I cannot arrange anything in the next day or so consider this sold if no one gets to it first.... as long as the shipping to 32311 is not astronomical.

Re: 1996 SVX transmission

I recently pulled a tranny out of a '92 that had supposedly been rebuilt and it had a shiny blue TC like this one does. I took that as a positive sign since there was no other proof. Subaru original factory TC's aren't blue, are they?

Re: 1996 SVX transmission

I'm not familiar with the Subaru TC's, I've dealt mostly with MT cars. I was hoping to come across some paperwork with the car, but the glovebox was empty.

Shipping quote from Denver to Florida is right at $200 FWIW.

Sounds like a good deal even with the added shipping costs. If it wasn't for the financial drain of Christmas, I would have snatched this up just for a back up. But I am happy to see it go into a car that needs it. Always better to get one back on the road.

No deal on this transmission yet. Someone wants a good tranny at a good price, I know it!

Re: 1996 SVX transmission

Well, it depends on some things.

What is the shipping to 86314. I wanted to goto the 4.44 also, but I guess this would be a good possibility.

Just curious where you got that quote from? I have had people interested in transmissions and it's hard to really get accurate quotes.

I get my freight quotes from FreightCenter.com. They quote multiple carriers but Yellow Freight Roadway is almost always the cheapest. I have shipped 2 engines through them and they both were smooth transactions on both ends.

I ship from my business location where we have a forklift and a loading dock and I usually ship to the terminal where the buyer can come pick it up.
