Re: Headlight Protectors Commitment Page.

this is a commitment list. If you put your name down on this list (how ever many times), you are 'committing' $50 non-refundable each time. Once the list reachs 25, thats when we have built up the momentum. I notify Dayle, he requests payment from each of us on the list, and the molds are made.

Until he has a committed set of 25 at $50 each, we cant 'get the ball rolling'.

If the list never reaches 25, then we never send him any money, and nothing happens.

Like I said earlier, I would really like to see the list go beyond 25 (the more the better, cheaper for us for one), as my 4 initial orders are 3 more then I need. But I will 'Commit' to them, in the event that we barely hit 25 orders.

James

I seriously expect that in 6 months half you people will have that mess off your cars. It won't help anything and it definitely won't look like a factory feature. I really can't believe so many are falling for it. I would be really surprised if people follow through with sending in the money

Please pm me as you opt out and I will put you on a new list!!

Thanks,
Keith
svxcess has a set on his car. His lights are some of the best lights I've ever seen. The covers don't even look that bad - heck they don't even look like they're there.

Re: Headlight Protectors Commitment Page.

If they are well made and replicated as close as possible to the ones I have, I may be interested in a set as well. It would be nice to have a side-by-side comparison.

One of the benefits I have found using these protectors in the winter:

HID low beams put out virtually no heat and therefore snow and ice does not melt when it contacts the lenses. This reduces visability greatly. The heat-producing stock low beam halogens and the high beams keep the snow melted, but the HID low beams do not.

But when using the protectors with the high beams, enough heat is produced in the airspace between the headlight lens and the protector that the covers actually get warm enough to keep the snow form sticking to them. The HID low beams are much more effective this way. By the way, In the winter I also use a slight coating of silicone spray on these covers to keep snow and ice from sticking.

One day I was out at OT's house and there was a light coating of frost on my headlights (without protectors) one morning. I started the car and turned on both the HID low beams and the normal halogen high beams.

After 5 minutes, the lens directly in front of my high beams were totaly clear as the frost had melted. The part of the lens directly next to them (in front of the HIDs), were still frost-covered.

Another possible option

Another option if this happens to fall through for whatever reason.

You can go to Griotsgarage and fine top quality headlight protection film that is pre-cut for our headlights HERE

They also have the same film in 17" x 22" sheet so you can cut, apply and trim off the excess as you prefer. For that product, go HERE

Dont forget to buy the Positioning Spray. Just spray the back of the film and headlights, slide around into position and squeegee out all the air bubbles for a perfect finish.

I have found the everything in Griots Garage is the best available and has been thoroughly tested. They have a stellar reputation and I have always been extremely pleased with their products.

It is funny that these headlight protectors were not made available in all of the SVX markets. At that time, when most SVX markets had the polycarbonate lenses, the German TUV laws said that all headlights had to be made of glass, so Subaru manufactured these units to meet those requirements.

Soon the German drivers found out that the glass lenses needed some sort of protection from road debris while travelling the Autobahn. So Subaru made plastic covers to protect the glass lenses. Strange.

That law has since been changed and now polycarbonate lenses are legal throughout Europe.

I use mine on long trips on the highway and especially during the winter in snowy weather. Salt from salt trucks and other chemicals are kept away from the headlights. I wash the covers frequently and can buff them with plastic polish to get rid of any scratches that I may get.

I have seen the headlight film installed and it is very hard to detect. If it ever gets pitted too much or damaged, just take it off and install a new set.
If I did not have the protectors already, this would be my very first choice... guaranteed!

is it just me or is anyone else amazed that sexcess actually drives that car in the winter. I would have never thought that. (if you have seen it you will agree)

Thanks for the film tip. I know what I'm doing once I get the lights better looking.

I can't believe he drives the car at all. With all those stones and stuff flying around, they might chip his car

Re: Headlight Protectors Commitment Page.

hey kwren, for someone so completely disinterested in these, you certainly are interested enough to put my glass headlight pics in your folder.....

If you dont understand the difference between a large piece of 3m tape stuck on your headlights vs these, then I really can't explain it to you.

Keep in mind that svxcess listed those as a 2nd place option. At $49 a single pair, that needs to be replaced every so often, I cant quite figure out your math. This is somehow better then buying semi-permanent plastic headlight protectors for -$100? Dude, I have a bridge I wouldnt mind selling you.....

Also keep in mind people, the only person here who has experience with them is advocating them, and has mentioned buying a repro pair

Re: Headlight Protectors Commitment Page.

Not having as much time to prepare the polo for Reading this year as in the past. Mike and Mike can have the prom queens this year

Although my car is garaged every night and away from the 10 cats that made my hood their home, it is far from a garage queen. It is my daily driver and I am appreciative that my route to work is 50 miles of scenic country roads and not on highways with heavy traffic and trucks kicking up all kinds of crap.

Hey! Just because my car is a queen... I'm not quite sure how to take that...

I'm still not 100% sure that the car will be ready. I do know that I won't have time to finish all of the things I had originally intended, but I just hope that we can get the engine together and installed in time.

By next Reading, I would like to have a set of shields over a set of new lights. My current lights are in decent condition, but not perfect.
