Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

Well it's been a very long night (Didn't finish until 4am) but I managed to get the motor back in. What a PITA. It ended up being myself and two friends who aren't so much into the car thing, but enjoy getting dirty once and a while.

I borrowed a under drive pulley from someone locally and it worked like a charm on the rear main seal.

None of us had put a motor in before, so it took much longer than it probably should have, but we finally managed to get it done.

I'll hopefully have everything back together tomorrow or Monday and fire her up and see what happens.

I'm fairly nervous to see if it runs properly or if I b0rked something and the **** hits the fan.

Is there anything special to do before running the car since it's been totally drained of all fluids? Do I just fill it up with coolant, oil, and PS. fluid then fire it up? Any tricks?

Here are just a couple of pictures

Sweeet. Are the lug nuts on your left rear wheel tight? Just wondering why it looks like you're running about -5* of camber.

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure why it's like that. I'm planning on taking it in for an alignment anyway, so I'll see whats up. It does look off.

It's probably the location of the jack stand that makes it look off.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

I'm pretty sure that's just a plastic wheel chock.

You are correct.

Well, I've got some good news! She turned over and runs

BUT....

Now I'm getting the power light blinking 16 times IIRC that means the tranny is throwing a code now.

I can't seem to get it to spit out the codes, but I haven't been driving it around yet so I figure it's just mad I'm not doing the first step of the process.

Any ideas?

First check all of the wiring looms making sure they are all connected and locked together.

The two main harnesses that are just behind the bell housing are connected properly. I'm not sure where they go from there, but I wasn't working with anything behind there.

Well, just took a short drive. The car is most certainly in limp mode. Still no luck pulling the codes

Scratch that, just got the code.

It's code 22 "Atmospheric sensor"

WTF is that?

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

Gah, scratch all of that.

The tranny code seems to have disappeared.

But the car still won't rev over 3k. I hear a relay tripping under the dash and it it acts like it's hitting a rev limiter.

BUT there is no engine code

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

Suggest you go back and disconnect the main harness connectors and make sure a pin(s) didn't get hashed upon reassembly. Given that the car wasn't running like this before the engine pull, it's probably a good bet that it's an electrical issue...

p.s. the only thing you "disabled" during the rebuild was the EGR, right?

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

Could this be related to screwing something up removing the EGR stuff?

As per tom (I think I did it correctly) I plugged the exhaust port, plugged the port on the intake manifold, and jumped the two vacuum lines on top of each of the butterfly valves to each other. Then left all of the others alone.

Correct. Everything else was put back the way I found it.

I'll have to go hunting for any possible missed vacuum lines or electrical connectors. The funny part though is that it seems to be running perfectly at the lower RPM's.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

For Clarity about what I did... Here are the remaining vacuum lines that I just left.

And here's the jump on top of the TB
