Finished my power mode mod

Well I noticed that some other members had done the power mode mod so I thought I would give it a try. I wanted to utilize one of the unused buttons on the instrument pods. I ended up modding the far left one on the pod with the hazards and defrost switch. I bought a switch from Radio Shack, pulled out the Dremel tool, and went to work. I epoxied the switch in place and used one of the extra switch covers that I had and painted a "P" on it. Here are some photos of the process:
Hole cut in the rear of the switch assembly

Deck of switch assembly cut to fit switch

switch installed

Re: Finished my power mode mod

Nice work I've seen people talk about putting it there but no one I recall has actually done it.

Congrats on having more than half a tank of gas... or not being on E.
(Seems like everyone always takes pics when their tank is on empty)

Re: Finished my power mode mod

Good to see where the power light is supposed to be, mine doesn't light. I just noticed the gear indicator between the speedo and tac about a week ago, it doesn't light either. I've owned the car since August and keep finding new stuff and new stuff to fix.

Can you tell me more about that ground location? Where exactly is that bolt located? Is it easy to get to?

Re: Finished my power mode mod

The bolt is located underneath the panel that is below the steering colum. If you remove the panel that has the change holder on the right side you will see two bolts that hold a metal cover in place. I used the lower of the two bolts.

Re: Finished my power mode mod

wow awesome work! I love what you did with the button!
I have a few questions:
Where did you find a switch that fit so perfectly in there???
How much was it??

I think I might do the same but not for the power but for a different application... I'll give more details later... but for a few more questions...

How did you paint it??
What kind of paint did you use, and what did you use for a template???

I found the switch at Radio Shack:http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062544
I had to sand down the sides of the switch so it would fit in the opening I made. I used some craft paint that I had around the house. I'm going to redo it with white opaque plastic model paint if I can find it. As for a pattern I just free handed the letter.

You can use the dry transfer lettering that hobby shops sell for model trains to do the lettering and put a flat clearcoat over it. The font which most resembles the lettering on the dash buttons is Gothic Condensed. I already have some of this on hand.

Here is a link to just on of the many sites available to purchase lettering
http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/woo/woomg738.htm

And if you do it right, it may just end up looking like this...

By using a little of this and that from my photo-shopping cart
(same mileage, same trip odometer, same amount of gas in the tank... what a coincidence!)
