I used to have an older Magellan GPS that I occasionally mounted in the SVX. It worked, but not well. I eventually got an external antenna that I put in the trunk, under the trim on the trunk lid. It worked perfectly after that.

If your GPS unit has a jack for an external antenna, I'd recommend doing that. Even if yours works on the dash, it could probably work better.

I'm almost done with the "mount" should be finished up tonight. I'll let Melis post pictures if she's happy with it...

For those with the Magellan Maestro's, what is the battery life on them?

Based on my experience with a fully charged one, the battery lasted me for a good two weeks, being used periodically. In total I'd say it lasted for 20 hours on the lowest brightness setting altogether.

I keep power to mine when it is the car and also when I bring it at night I keep it powered up all night. Her name is Blondie, and she makes a great night lite.

The battery life, meaning when it no longer works... I have no idea but it has to be professionally replaced when it dies.

Wasn't sure which life you were asking about

Take care,
Keith

I have a GARMIN nüvi 200W, and it works fine in the SVX, no issues. Takes about the same time as in the legacy or expedition, so I'd say that there really isn't a noticeable effect at all on my end.

define fine?

they all work fine but are we talking it is good to go in our cars the instant we turn it on, good to go a mile down the road, 10 miles later it is working fine?
Don't know about the rest, but the Magellan 4250 and it can be programed to pick up satellites better from your home location (or choose any other location)

Re: GPS system performance in the SVX

I finally got my Nuvi 260 in the mail and while I don't really care for the vent mount very much (The Magellan one looks much better) this will have to work for now.

It only takes about 30 seconds max to find a satellite... sometimes less than that. Overall it seems to work very well.
