Gas gauge and miles per tank question
Hi, I shot a note out last week about my gas gauge not going to full and hitting the E dash at around 200 miles. An 18 gallon tank I should get 350ish. I have a 5 speed so I should get a bit better than the standard 18-25 MPG???
What miles per tank do yall get? The gauge thing is bugging me too. Are there any other Subi models that have the same sending unit? Im sure the dealership will rape me if I get a new one there.. Thanks Chris |

Miles Per Tank
Quote:
Wa'ssup Virginia!!! I routinely get right at 370 miles per tank before freakin towards a fuel area. Works out to a normal 22 to 25 per gallon in my service area, and I spend most of the time on the highways. I guess the saddle tank is the problem, and it seems that if you run the tank as deep as you can stand before filling it, then it gets more accurate. You can get the needle right about 75 degrees negative before the light comes on. |

My Best was 401 Miles on 12.6 Gallons across Oregon up the Interstate 5. I kept it at 60-70MPH and no AC or windows down with bald tires This was not fun but I had to see what the best I could do was.
The rest of the trip from LA to Vancouver was: 270Miles =10.7 Gal (Southern Cali) 368Miles =12.6 Gal 379Miles =13 Gal 401Miles =12.6 Gal 119Miles = 4Gal Around town I only get about 240Miles. We have lots of hills. My Gas gauge is on empty around 13 Gal.

what octane are you running? should be premium don't forget.
I'm averaging 350 miles to the tank when the needle hits the "E" line...and normally when I fill up, I only get 12.5 gals...which means I still have more gas in the tank. |

I doubt you'll improve much on 18-25 MPG, even with a stick. I've gotten over 30 freeway MPG on two occasions in the past year... but my daily average is around 21, and I've seen as low as 16+. dcb |

Oh, you should be able to get over 500 miles on a tank all highway. I routinely get over 350 per tank mixed.

I ran mine out of gas once and filled it up to the top with 17.99 gallons.
You should be able to get at least 400 highway miles out of a tank before the gas light comes on. mixed - like David said - about 350

At least this way I know that I won't ever run out of gas, even if I drive a long way with the gas light on.

From past posts on the subject, I believe goofy gas gauge syndrome is the result of the tank float that absorbs gasoline, gets heavy, & sags. The sending unit isn't at fault. Ron.

Mmm. It is sort of like trainning the Fuel Gauge. Maybe I should wait once for the Fuel light to come on and then it will take longer to hit the E Spot.

I've had similar experiences with the E spot. Now I don't wait to hit the E spot but instead fill every week. On another note when I fill to the top the gauge stops right on the F spot every time. Before it used to pass the F spot. I guess the float is getting soaked.
