Unhappy My poor SVX...

I just got rear-ended earlier today.
I think the pictures speak for themselves. (There's more here.)

So how fixable do you guys think this is?

Gonna need a trunk, wing, two rear fenders, bumper (maybe just repaint), miscellaneous light parts; pretty much a whole rear clip. I'd milk the person who rear ended you for all they're worth.

That looks alot worse than it really is. The impact went over the rear bumper so the rails and trunk floor are not damaged. As far as the rear quarters(fenders) go; the drivers looks to have no damage at all. As far as the passengers quarter, look for any buckles further down the quarter panel (like around the wheel well) If there is none, and the only damage is what you showed in the picture...read on . After you milk their insurance for all its worth.. here is what you do.

Purchase the following parts...preferably the same color:

Rear bumper cover
trunk lid
taillight set

install the trunk lid and the driver side taillight
remove your bumper cover

At this point you may notice that the trunk lid may not close correctly because the part where the trunk latches on to is pushed back a inch or 2 and will need a "lil pulling" (Not to worry a body shop can easily take car of this)

Now that you have the car looking more "whole" you will need one last part...that part of the passenger quarter which I marked in red in the picture. If you can find a parts car, have them cut that part off outside of my lines to give the body hope as much to work with as possible. When you have this.. head on down to a local body shop. Stay clear of the high priced flashy ones. A small business type will do. Look inside and if things look to be orderly and clean that usually indicates the type of work they will do on your car.

Now what the body shop will do with your car is: First they will remove the damaged part of your quarter, cutting where I drew the doted line and drilling through the spot welds everywhere else. they will than do a lil pulling to have your trunk close correctly and aligned. They will cut off a portion from the part you provided matching the portion they removed from your car and they will weld that in place. Lastly they will apply a little bondo over the straight weld at the dotted line and than prime and paint your quarter providing that you found the other parts the same color.

That is the cheapest Easiest way to fix your problem. the more expensive way is to replace the complete right quarter panel with a new one. Not sure how much they run for our car but usually they tend to be around $600 just the panel and than the labor could be in the thousands. In either event your car is far from totaled having received no real frame damage.

It was some 18 year old girl so I couldn't exactly do that.
She was completly at fault so at least I wont be paying for anything.

Triumph,
Thanks for that detailed write-up!
I think the hardest part will be to find a parts car out here.
If it ends up not being totaled, I'm going to try and get a full repaint (something I've been wanting to do for a while).

Mileage is irrelevant since cars are exempt after 7 years (that’s how it is in wisconsin anyway) What matters is the condition of the car and how rare it is. Case and point...Over at probetalk.com some guy smacked into a members car and turned this:

into this...

The initially wanted to total his car and give him something like $2500 he took them to court and got to keep his car and get a nice settlement

Oh man!! You didn't get hurt? Sorry that happened to your car. Hope she wasn't driving some big SUV and talking on her cell phone when she smashed your car. Anyways..that doesn't like horrible damage. I've seen worse cases and got fixed like nothing happened. Good luck fixing your SVX. Glad you're OK!

Man that sucks... ... DO NOT PART IT OUT, ........... I just wish I can get all those damaged SVX's into my country (laws here do not allow cars to enter Lebanon more than 8 years old), man that car can be easily fixed, what should be replaced are the taillights and the trunk.

GUYS CUTTING AND REPLACING THE REAR FENDER WOULD MAKE THE CAR LOOKS WEIRD.

that is fixable and the good bodyworker should be able to staighten in up...

Check out my front fender after my last accident:

Can you see the damage appearing in red circles?

here is after fixing the fender:

BTW, do you think this is the only damage this fender has sustained in the accident? I bet the rear fender is also bent somewhere in the middle. To straighten it out, the bodyworker should weld a chain to the side of the rear fender and use this device (whatchamacallit ) used to pull it to its proper place. Then you can either cut that marked part above and replace it or (preferably in my opinion) straighten it again... that depends upon labor over there
