I'm in for rebuilding the SVX. SVXes are hard to come by. Let's try to keep what we still have here. I think we can do some work on that. I sure don't want to loose my SVX twin.

So, who knows somebody who'll donate a flatbed?
I know lots of you have tools. Somebody's GOT to know somebody with a garage with the equipment. Dang, I love this group. It would just be too cool if we could pull this off. Make a heckuva demo for the 10th meet. Not to mention, it's just a darned nice gesture.

......i feel.......horrible....right now.....
i really wish we could all get together and try and rebuild the damn thing. but god knows all the parts that would need to be replaced. i am not even sure of the damage inside. perhaps it is too much to be repaired and then we have trucked the damn car for nothing.
at this point, as depressing as it sounds, i have to fold. i dont have the money to explore. i dont have the money for a used or rebuilt engine. i am going to have to pay $1000 in salvage just to get my car back. plus they are only giving me retail value for the car minus what i owe. lastly water is all in the electronics of the car. i would probably have to replace all my sensors. plus water is all up in the throttle body and intake. the car is just a f***ing mess. i am fed up and too tired at this point to fight with it. i love all of you guys and i thank everyone for your support and encouragement. i will keep everyone posted and how this unfolds over the next 30 days.

Get a grip!
Yeah it's crappy news but you gotta get your face outta the dirt and put your chin back up in the air!
I did a little talking today and found that most insurance companies sell the cars back for 10% of the claim. In other words a $10,000 car would go for a grand. How much could you do in repairs for that kind of money?? Do the math, $10,000 car - $1000 sell back = the car plus $9000 settlement. You could have a new engine and a pretty damn nice paint job to boot, if you play your cards right. I'm starting to get ideas myself (and I'll wager a few others are too ) Think about it. Beav p.s. sorry if I jolted ya a bit but I tend to be a hard-nosed realist... |

I think my hands will be healed from the tranny install by then. I'm in for any gruntwork, moral support, or picture taking.
1994subysvx - please seriously consider taking the group up on their offer. None of us want to see you go. BTW - the A-team thing really cracked me up. Now I have the theme song stuck in my head.If anyone has that on tape, it needs to be playing during the install.

<<So, is the plan to have the car arrive in Indiana in June, and have it put back together for the 10th Anniversary meet in July?>>
Sorry, I had just finished some scheduling for June and I had it stuck in my head. Between all the cars that are advertised on this site for parting out, we gotta be able to replace any sensor or logic module that , we may need. I'll bring a few cases of electronics cleaner and dielectric grease. Not to get away from the point of this, but this could actually bring national media attention to our meet and to the SVX. Doug

What about selling it to one of us? I'm sure one of us would be willing to pay at least $1000 to buy the car, then we could fix it up. It'd be a shame to cannibalize another car.

Catch your breath!
Take the time to catch your breath before making any firm decisions. This would take it's toll on anyone with any car, much less someone with the passion you (and us all) have about this car.
Don't fold, don't commit, just catch your breath!!! Randy (Hoping to help....somehow) ii |

Gosh - I am still numb after reading this. I wish there was something we could do out here in the Pacific Northwest. The only thing that makes me feel better is to see how members react when something like this happens. All for one !!!! One thing for sure - our cars are much too important than to cast off to an insurance company. Good luck and take some time to think this through. With this many members wanting to help, almost anything can happen.
Randy - those are not your shiny tools! Please put them back where you got them.:rolleyes

some good news.....maybe.....
saturday i decided to go by the show to pick up one of the gatecards out of my svx for the wife. i am currently driving the GTI and she is in the rental, a neon.
anyway there was a mechanic outside and i asked him if i could get the card. he asked if it was my car and said he was the one the insurance company had look at it. i asked him if he took out the plugs when he turned the motor and he said, "honestly no i did not, the insurance rep told me not too." What??????? I got pissed and then he got scared that i would talk to the insurance rep. so i calmed him down and told him i would say nothing. once calm he basically told me that he thought once they took out the plugs, hand turned the motor a couple of times, and then replaced the plugs that the car would probably just fire right up. so basically i am going to pay the salvage $800-1000 and then maybe another $1000-1500 to get it back perfect and she will be ok. i am not certain that this will turn ok but i do now have a little hope. guys thanks so much for giving a damn. you have no idea how much it means to me. i will work this out. i will try to do this without enlisting some of you guys. but it is really nice to know you guys are willing to be there for me. i will keep everyone posted.......
