nah, its been just plain slow. NASIOC is too damn fast to keep up with, but LGT.com seems just about right as far as pace goes. this place is a little on the slow side.

Yeah, I know what you mean... When I'm bored at work I either read forums, or read articles online... but you can't expect this board to keep up with boards that have 10+ times the number of members.

I know Greg thinks convertibles are for chicks, but I really enjoyed the SL600. This is becoming tough to decide. If I get a 968 it will be a convertible. If I was going to get a coupe, it would be a 928. I wish I could get both, but that seems unlikely.

I disagree that 951's are hard to find in reasonably good shape. I was looking at buying one last year, but sadly, that college tuition thing reared its ugly head. You can find one in great condition for about 12k. This is definitely on the high end of the spectrum for them, but worth it if it comes with a complete service history. Make sure the timing belt has been changed regularly, the clutch is still good (if it is an earlier model, make sure the clutch has been replaced), and ALWAYS take it for a PCI (porsche certified inspection) prior to purchase.

The 968 had many similar problems to the 944 and 928, make sure there is a good service history. Convertibles are great fun, but if you go with a Porsche, I would personally keep a hard top. Don't want to ruin the superb handling.

If you don't have the funds or the Porsche-specific knowhow, definitely stay away from the 911. May be cheap to buy, but definitely are not cheap to own.

There is a real nice Guards Red 944 Turbo (951) modded out to an alleged 350hp at the wheels for $10k OBO in Rocherster, NY on Rennlist. They only have a few 928 S4s. It's fun to peruse and dream.

Black over Tan is my favorite color combo on the 928 with Guards Red over Tan a close second. With the 968 Convert, I like the Guards Red over Black.

I have been hanging over on the RennList site lately and a color combo dawned on me. A S4, hopefully with a black interior, custom painted in BMW M3 Dakkar Yellow. I'm getting into it!!!! What would a color conversion cost? A good one [inside the doors, under the hood, etc...]

Good? if you don't know anybody upwards of $5k, probably closer to $8k. Full color changes are not cheap.

naw man, you don't want black leather in the summer time! you'll roast your a55 off!

the champagne (tan) leather is very nice looking (what i had), but the majority of the interior is still black. some 928's had the FULL leather interior option - the dash, door inserts, and i believe, the center console were all wrapped in leather. that's a little too much for me, though,

I don't know why, but I've never been impressed with any of the late 80s early 90s porsche interiors. I know when my buddy first got his 951 I was expecting a lot more "luxury" feel to it and was suprised at how... not neccesarily cheap, but more just mediocre the interior seemed. Very comfortable, and It looks pretty good with the tan leather and black dash.


I'm not sure what the official name for the color he has is, however its a dark blue that I LOVE. It looks incredible. He just bought another 951 thats been tracked and is going to beat on it for a while before he rebuilds the motor.

Whats funny is he's building a black one as a track car for a guy he knows. He just bought a red track one. HIS car is the rarer blue, and he had two silvers as parts cars. Did they come in any other colors?

944's and 951's weren't luxury cars. they were sports cars - pure function. the 928's had the full leather and exotic wood options, but i preferred the plainer, sportier look. the stock Recaro seats were the best i've ever sat in - so comfortable, 8-way adjustable, in/out/up down lumbar support, and 3 memory settings.
