thanks for the vote of confidence....wish I had lived up to it Details.... This was a SCCA members only event, thus no walk ons. We had the A lot at FedEx since our normal lot E/F was being used for some other function. Lot A is enormous! (foreshadowing....) Our normal course designer brought the "North" course design back with him from this year's Nationals at Topeka, KS The "North course" design was awesome! It was over a mile long, with a combination of offset slaloms, 90 deg turns, couple of boxes, a "driver's choice" slalom at the end....all over a parking lot so big - with massive changes in elevation - that you couldn't see more than a 1/4 of the course from the starting line!! Being in the first run group, this was a case of "more walks the better" - unfortunately, I only walked it once. (foreshadowing...) Chiles and Jacobs didn't show up due to the rain on Saturday and threat of rain on Sunday 58 degrees at the start of the first run group (think "cold race tires" .... no grip foreshadowing...) Only 4 non-Minis ran in GS (foreshadowing...) I made the decision to adopt the driving suggestions I got from the co-driver I had at the Subaru Challenge -- i.e. get closer to the cones and use the brakes more (foreshadowing...) Results Got Red Flagged on my first run, as the GS SVT blew his gear box at the bottom end of the course (Brad ended up co-driving with one of the Minis for the rest of his runs...) Second run pushed it at around 9/10th and almost spun the car three times "Get closer to the cones and use the brakes" kicked in on the third run -- slightly slower time, only "almost" spun the car once... Fourth run -- no "almost" spins and time dropped Last run -- Everything clicked, tires finally warmed up, braking points nailed down ... dropped 2 seconds from my previous fasted run....unfortunately I also picked up one cone on an offset slalom in the middle of the course (caught it with a back tire!!) Let's just say Minis made up more than 10 of the top times... -Bill (looking forward to ESP next year and more seat time to sort out Bill Stock Level II/III) p.s. I think the front Konis can probably go another 1/4 turn stiffer and the front tire pressure can drop another couple of psi -- more "things to do" for the autoX notebook!

500 word essay and no times? What's up with that Bill. Confidence? I had you 7th IN CLASS!!! You didn't even do that?
From the video I saw and comparable times to drivers I know I'd say we would've been aroud the minute mark give or take.

Yeah, sorry about forgetting to post my time -- I was at 67 on my last run - my guess is that I'm still at least one more event away from dialing in how to drive Bill Stock Level II (still getting used to power on oversteer) Thought you might like this (Mr. Louie is the "ringer" that was going to drive the Race Car at the Subaru Challenge, right?) - this was in an email Mike had on the WDCA's autoX yahoo site -- My video is up - please Right Click & Save As (52mb): <http://www.mikelouietkd.com/2005_10_09DC.wmv>http://www.mikelouietkd.com/2005_10_09DC.wmv Watching the video I drove like poop. And I wish I would have known that I nailed cones on 3 of my 4 runs. It was never announced (or at least I didn't hear it) I knew about my 1st run, but after watching the video you can see some cones not set back up in the right spots (watch my 3rd and fastest run coming out of the slalom closest to the stadium). Mike Nice to know I wasn't the only one "coning away" their best run -Bill

Yeah That's where I'm getting the idea of about a minute from. I've had some pretty similar in times to him in our car (driving his Civic) on a course where power can be used. He said he had a 61.5 I think on our board so I figure we'd be in that ballpark. He's usually not a huge cone killer but definately takes an aggressive approach. He still killed you though didn't he?

David, or you could just replace "excuses" with "bite me" -Bill (in the words of Mike Louie "I drove like poop" )
