Man, did you get more than you bargained for. Didn't think 'any opinions would be appreciated' would net so many responses, did you? Heh.

As for the blinker, I can answer that one. A shopping cart hit mine. Here's a link to the right page on SubaruParts.com:

You want item #4. Surprisingly enough, I got a slightly lower price locally (rare - these guys usually undercut everybody by a lot). It is very easy to replace.

You should be able to get the service history of the car from the dealer - but it will only reflect service that was done at Subaru dealerships. Don't let 'em be lazy and tell you that it can't be done without the owner's name and address - it can be printed without, and you know where the owner lives anyway.

All in all, I think you're looking at a good deal. Take it to a mechanic to be sure. And take it to a Subaru mechanic, lest you be misinformed by somebody who's never seen an SVX before.

The tranny on my *GREEN* 95 L AWD went around 91-92,000 miles. I have a feeling though that the previoius owner kinda beat on the car. The alternator went south at the same mileage. Rear main engine seal shortly thereafter, and my bearings are on their way out now at 111,000 miles.

Up!

I spoke with the owner today and let her know I would like to have it checked out by a local Subaru dealer. She had absolutey no problem with that. She even told me that this dealer has late hours on Tuesday (I already knew that, but she told me anyway) and that she would be glad to meet me there. And it is way out of her way. Too good to be true? Or am I just lucky?

Convinced my wife too. I hope nobody swoops in and buys it before then.

If the car checks out as sound, I would say you've found a bargain. Even if you have to put a couple of thousand into it, it would still seem to be a reasonable deal, based on the retail and private sales prices.

InukSean,

Give her a deposit on the purchase of the car. Contingent on the dealer check going ok. Give her $500 deposit. That should be enough to tell her your very interested and serious. The fact that you are having it checked should tell her that but it will also not allow her to sell it out from under you. Do it in writting and it is a legal deposit for sale.

Ciao

after the tires......

you should immediately slap on a tranny cooler. that will help maintain the longevity or your transmission.

also you can check the VIN# with carfax.com (for a small fee) and they will give you a complete repair history of the car.

Up!!

I bought the car: $4,400.

I had it checked out by my local Subaru Dealer and the only issues they could find were a leaking valve cover gasket and the rear brakes are starting to show some wear.

Otherwise, the car is in fantastic shape and I think I got a great deal.

First order of business is to fix the items mentioned above and install an external transmission oil cooler.

Then a full detailing and new tires.

Other than that, it's good to go.

Anything else I should do????

YES! You should sign up for the Reading, PA meet on April 6 & 7, to show the rest of us fools what $4,400 will buy.
Good luck with the new toy!
Ron.
