Windshield wiper wont work past 80 MPH Any one else have this problem?

After driving over to Washington State University for orientation from Seattle, I found out a couple of things that bothered me about the SVX. The main one was at 80MPH plus my driver side wiper barley works at all, and only work when its moving to the out side of the car, it then lifts about 1/2 inch off the glass and drags back, barley at that. And at about 120MPH plus the wipers are dragged vertical with out me doing any thing at all. I know theres alot of aerodynamic force at 120 MPH plus, and I can acpect that the wipers wouldent work at that speed, but I think they should be good to at least 90-100MPH. So my question is, is this normal for any SVX ro does mine have a problem?

I wasent doing 120MPH in the rain, just at 120MPH the wipers are forced vertical and wont really move at that speed at all. I dont really care if they are forced up at that speed as long as it dosent hurt anything.

I don't have any problems on the wiper while doing 90-95mph. I just came back from cumberland thru I-68E(curvy) past tuesday. There's some rain. My wiper was working alright; I set it to speed-sensitive mode.

For over 120mph, I forgot....

For high speeds you might consider parking the wipers in "Summer" mode. One would think that parking them lower might prevent them being pushed up, but mine have never done this at high speed.

I'm with Beav - Rain-X is the only way to go. The faster you go, the better it works!

I remember being able to go highway speeds in the rain without wipers thanks to rainX.

I noticed the bolts are kinda stripped on my wipers.

Wiper Blades

Hi SVXSUBARU1, I have had my '92 SVX since 1997 and have come to the opinion that the OEM blades are the way to go. However, recently on two qther cars I have tried Valeo blades and PIAA blades. The Valeo blades have no exposed frame and have airfoils built in to hold them down. The PIAA blades have an exposed frame so they would not be great in the winter. They are available with an airfoil to hold them down. Both of these blades can be purchased from www.tirerack.com . Take care, BOBB

Do you mean the splines that locate the arms are stripped? If so try placing a couple loops of fishing line through the arm holes before placing them on the posts. That's usually enough to keep them properly located.
