Thumbs up Leather replacement pics are up!

Let's see, it's only 9 months late! A few of you that have been around for a while might remember my posts last April about re-upholstering my front two leather seats. No previous experience and lots of "MacGyvering" involved. But in the end it was worth it and a great bonding experience with my SVX. For anyone interested in seeing what our seats are made of, how I did it, or just to laugh at my excessive use of duct tape, look in my personal locker. I've also got some great pictures in there from August of 2000. The other folders in there I'm working on organizing, but some great pics will be added soon!

Where did you get the replacement leather from?

I came across the leather by chance. I saw Motorsports warehouse had the custom leather interior for sale so I sent an inquiry as to the price. Dayle told me $900 plus shipping but added that he did still have some nearly mint leather lying around from one of their cars they converted to the custom stuff. For $100 I figured it was worth a try and with a little work it turned out great.

Looks sweet. Good pics. I never realized how bad the foam padding could be under there.

Do you think all your tape will hold up? Just thinking about after a few months of use if it will turn, slide or move. It could start to bunch up.

Or did you take the tape out before sliding the new skin on?

Did they say if how much more skin they had laying about?

BTW, I think I might have the same craftsman tool set you got. (I love the rubber handled screwdriver. Best grip for my fat hands.

Thanks!

I actually did this job last April, so it has been almost a year and the cushion with the tape on it still feels about the same. Fortunately it was only the driver side bottom cushion, everywhere else was fine. That was also the part where the leather was most damaged, so I suspect some water had been in there and that was why that one cushion was so dissolved. The tape is holding up, but it is still not as solid as the passenger side, I have been on the hunt for months for a new bottom cushion. (no one wants to sell just that part of course and new is WAY too much) So if your seat feels fine and solid, chances are it won't look as bad as mine if you took the old skin off.

You could check with M.W. to see if they had more skin laying around - I had thought I got the only set but after that someone else posted they got the same deal. So you may be in luck if you need some.

Yes, I love my craftsman tool set! Years ago I used to sell tools at Sears!
