Thumbs up I love my car again: thank you 4.44

Holy cow. This gear ratio is awesome!!! Today was my first non inter neighborhood expedition (work). I didn’t want to go home. I just wanted to keep driving. I’m not sure how much of it is the ecu tune and how much is the tranny because I did them at the same time, but who cares! My car is so much fun. I just wanted to share with the only people who might not rule me totally insane.

Thumbs up

I only went to 4.11, but agree wholeheartedly with the improvement. The use of the SVX at anything anywhere near legal speeds is so much better. Glad it worked out for you

Thumbs up Nice!

Hey, Orthopod, glad you like it! What kind of RPMs are you turning at an indicated 75mph? I noticed with my 5MT and 4.11 gears that my theoretical topend is 150mph at redline. At an indicated 75mph I turn 3500rpm. In reality it is more like only 70mph at 3500rpm. I am very curious as to speed/rpm with the 4.44 gearing.

Johnny.

Tom (svxfiles), since I know you will be reading this, you have a 5MT with 4.44 gears if I recall. WHat kind of speed vs RPM to you experience with yours? When I cruise around 80mph I am turning close to 4000rpm. Cruising faster feels like I am pushing the car a little even though I am barely on the throttle to maintain that speed. And that is with 4.11s only! I'd like to know what you see with yours and what it's like to live with on highway drives. Eventually I will be replacing my tranny and am unsure to stick with 4.11 or go with 4.44's or even down to 3.90's.

Johnny

I will pay attention on the way home tonight and let you know. I’m always happy to have a valid reason to drive spiritedly.

Johnny, we have two 4.44 geared 4EAT SVXi, (the first two) and soon to have a third 4.44 SVX, the white one we just bought. The trans and rear were SUPPOSED to be here this past Monday .
Orthopod, glad you are up and running, What a huge differance gears make! I believe you are third, and unless I beat NeedforSpeed, He will be fourth.

Hey Ron, Are you through yet?

But to answer your question, Johnny, at just over 80 mph, indicated, the engine is turning just over 3000 rpm, on the level, and fully warmed up.

We will soon have a five speed in the family, as my little brother just bought a 92 that needs a transmission.
P.s. Hey Mark, did you tell/ask your wife yet? Tom

Two, going on three 4.44, 4EAT automatic all we'll drive SVXi, and two with the stock 3.545 4EATs.

Wow! That's not bad at all. Very liveable if you ask me. THat would put your theoretical top speed at over 170mph. Does not seem right as that is slightly less than a stock SVX, no? There is definitely a big difference in the tranny gearing itself outside of the final drive ratio if my 5MT turns 1000 more rpm than your and I'm only running 4.11 gears. I can't imagine how slow mine would be (top speed wise) if I ran 4.44 gears.

Johnny

Don't forget your 5th gear ratio is ~.78 when the 4EAT 4th gear ratio is ~ .69

Excellent point David. I forgot about the different ratio for the top gear...

Like I said... "There is definitely a big difference in the tranny gearing itself outside of the final drive ratio if my 5MT turns 1000 more rpm than your and I'm only running 4.11 gears". It's good to know the exact difference though so I can do some rough gearing. I guess running 3.90 gears might put my top end at about that of a 4EAT with 4.44 gears.
