First Wireless Network of MCAS Beaufort is UP!!

That's right!! I got all my nessary equipment a few days ago and have spent the last day configuring my network. I have 4 people on at the moment and am hoping to expand as soon as I can get some more businuess cards made. It is a 802.11g (54mbps) router. Currently I have all my users equiped with "g" cards and the lowest speed we are running is 17mbps. That is due to distance and how many walls the signal has to pass through. Eventually I plan on linking two of the barracks together via Yagi Antenna. That is gonna kick some serious @$$!!! I can't wait!!! Actually starting a little businuess with my friend called NL WiFi Networking... That stands for No Limit Wireless Networking and Security.

My Base Station is a Microsoft MN-700
The most popular card on the network is the MN-720

When I upgrade I'll probably move to Linksys or D-Link... Microsoft is a good start though

At the moment I'm sitting downstaird in the courtyard... Wireless is cool

Hi everyone, I set up a home wireless system about two years ago. We have an all Apple setup. We are using four computers in the house. I-mac Ruby, E-mac, Titanium power book, and I-mac 17in. It sure beat wiring a 35 tear old house. Take care, BOBB

Wireless is the way to go... As long as you get some good security then it is fine... My system works on 256bit WEP at the moment. I turned it up when I found a sneaky **** trying to get on my network a few days ago... Don't know who it was but I know he is somewhere near my room... No problems though since I jacked up the security... Go ahead and try to break my 256bit password That will take a good month of nothing but computing, with the best password cracking software too...

Hey Sonar.... What do ya think about Linksys(or Cisco as I believe the parent company is called)??? I may be upgrading my router and have always been interested in them. Especially since they have detachable anteana's... Kinda nifty to beable to take off the regular anteana and run a cable out the window to a 7db anteana or even greater... Nice cheap way to extend the range huh

Here's a cheaper way to increase your range:

Hahahaha!!! Yea I love those things I was actually gonna make a Yagi anteana outta a pringles can... Don't know if ya've seen that yet or not but it only costs like $5 to make... Pretty cool, even though this looks even cooler. However I don't know if the guys in Billeting (Barracks management) would appreaciate a big dish hanging off the side of my balcony ...

Cool I'd like to get one of those, but I know that eventually whole computers will be as small as one of those PDA's.. .I'll hold out and continue on with my work laptop

This thing is a "whole" computer. Even looks like a miniature laptop.
