Today is the Alaska Fighting Championship.
The winner gets to square off against some UFC guys.

I would have signed up were I not halfway paraplegic.
I woulda bought a ticket were my tranny not acting up.

No luck for NikFu.
Maybe another time.

Le sigh...

I'm not a fan of the UFC and imitators. (Having seen several, I can say that with confidence.) But I can easily say that, if you were to sign up to be in the ring, I'd pay dearly to watch.

In some ways I would love to contribute to this thread but I am quite certain that I have no idea what the hell your're talking about!

I used to watch the UFC during college with my roomamtes. I kinda grabbed my attention since I was studying Taekwondo at that time in my life. Much cooler than wrestling since different martial art styles are used.

What martial art(s) do you study NikFu S.?

I can assure you someone would "pay dearly", in any case.

Chike> I've studied a couple early forms of basic karate ( I don't know which), some shotokan, ansatsuken, various grappling techniques (which I suck at implementing, but can overcome easily), and I'm very good at imitating certain kung fu styles (drunken fist, mantis).

Ever since leaving the shotokan dojo behind I have been reluctant to study under any particular established style, so I just form some techniques which are comfortable for me and try to learn what I'm capable of without conforming to what anyone else thinks I should do.

Still though my own "style" resembles power based shotokan. I'm not into that flashy flying crap, and the more simple and straightforward the form, the better.
Doing crazy flashy junk is how I threw my back out and why it's spazzing now.

You might not think I would stand a chance in the ring with my puny body, and I also have my doubts, but I've never lost a fight, so I'm arrogant.
This also might sound crazy, but I love fighting. It's my happy place, win or lose. Even more than driving. =D

--

The thing that really sucks right now is this is the first year I can legally enter one of these things. It's not an amateur brawl where you can be 18. ( I missed those, too. Thanks a lot school...)

--

The deal on my back, the really weird thing, is it only agonizes if I have been sitting upright for an extended period then try to move. I had almost no trouble with it walking around lifting things tday. Weird, huh?

Wow! Seems like you're a true Martial arts specialist. I studied Taekwondo for 1.5 years in college and got my blue belt before graduating. I then travelled to South Korea and practiced for 6 months...

I've also studied a bit of crane & mantis Kunfu as well as learned to use the staff as a weapon.

All in all, martial arts are awesome. I'm sorry your back in out at times. All the best in the future!

Drunken fist is awesome, and I know you are messing around, but the movements are very appealing to me and the style is wicked.

And wouldn't you know it, my back is fine today. Just in time to miss everything including a physical that could have got me mad dough.
