Antenna installation

I know this topic belongs in the technical forum ,but nobody hardly ever goes there. Maybe I'll get some quicker responses here.

I just bought a antenna off ebay. I removed my original antenna about 3 years ago and I completly forgot how to install it. I attempted to install it today. Connected the black(radio reception) wire, and the power wire. Upon connection of the power wire, I heard a sound from the antenna motor, but the antenna didnt budge. Tried turning the radio on and off again and still nothin. Anybody have any experience with this?

P.S. I have a aftermarket reciever, that I bought a year after I removed the antenna

Sounds like you're ebay buy has a broken/off the track plastic piece. There is a plastic cable which goes to the top of the antenna mast. It actually then attaches to the motor which makes the antenna go up and down. If you're getting noise from the motor when you should that would be my guess. You can take the antenna off the motor and find out. Not sure if you can buy this cable but I know when mine antenna broke I was told I could order just the mast and cable from Subaru. Seemed like too much of a hastle to me so I just bought a whole system from a junkyard. Hope you didn't pay too much.

Try here if you wanna go used again www.car-part.com

I had to replace my antenna mast recently after a 'tangle' with the car wash. It only takes a few minutes to actually replace it- so long as the plastic flex rod is still reasonably intact.

If you need to, I could try to 'coach' you through it.
