Misc. Ramblings

Hi All,

1) I am without internet access on my home computer. At home, I have ATT.net. I can't seem to talk to a real live person at ATT to help me.
My problem seems to be in my computer. The screen box keeps telling me that the dial up number for the internet provider is not working when I try to log on. I called the phone no., and it's working fine. Anyone have any suggestions. This started right before Isabel hit.

2) I have been going back and forth from home to Syracuse for work. I have to go to Syracuse again, tomorrow. These one day trips are beginning to wear me down. I like to drive but the round trip is about 8 1/2 hours and driving thru thunderstorms in the middle of the night is 'getting old' very quickly.

The first 2 items are why I have not been on line much in the last two weeks. I have to sign off now, it's crunch time at work.

Hi Larry,

Are you driving up and back in the same day? That's a long day.

My computer at home was having all sorts of problems and is now working great, like brand new , thanks to a free software call AdAware. It cleans out all the prgrams that got added through the enternet that run in thebackground unknown to the user. Do you use something similar?

I work in the electronics department at Wal-Mart, you'd be surprised how much stuff got fried by Isabell. What do you mean by right before? If it was only shortly before (same day) I'm thinking that possibly a surge was sent through your phone line and fried your modem (is the phone line surge protected?). The number I pulled off of the ATT website for Wilmington access is 302-252-9400. Is that the number you're attempting to dial? Here are some oter numbers you could try but you're probably looking at long distance charges:
Angola DE 302-231-4288
Delmar DE 302-466-2288
Dover DE 302-747-2288
Georgetown DE 302-752-2288
Rehoboth DE 302-864-0020
Selbyville DE 302-988-0020
Smyrna DE 302-223-4288
I'd double check the number, try a different one if its correct, and if you get the same error you may need to replace the modem. It's only like a 15 min job once you get the case opened and you can get the modem for under $30.
Good luck.

P.S. Ad-aware is a great program, but its not going to help you out at all.

I'm with Steve on this, Larry. Your modem is fried.

Do you get a voice recording? Error 678?

Can you dial the access number using your telephone? If not the call us so we can submit a ticket and resolve the problem (no charge). You may even talk to me!

Try using Hyperterminal to connect to the local access number. Start-->programs-->accessories-->communications-->hyperterminal

You don't really want to call for support if you can call the access number with your telephone. They will charge you $17 to tell you your modem could be dead. The best thing to do if you need to call in for tech is to call combined billing at 1-888-288-9050 (you must use AT&T local/long distance) and request to be switched to the AT&T Internet Preferred Customer Plan for $11.95/month which includes unlimited Internet access and free tech support.
