Getting started
I bought a 1994 SVX LSi 2 weeks ago. 230,500 miles... it works for the most part.
Questions: How hard is it to change the valve cover gaskets? Same thing for real wheel bearings When I start to turn the wheel (about first complete circle) it sounds like there is grinding coming from the back of the car... possible problems? Where do I get parts for this bad boy? Car is originally blue. Rear spoiler paint is shot... best tips on sanding or stripping down so that it can be primered for a while? I will post pics soon... |

Re: Getting started
I can't answer all of these, but I know a couple.
The valve covers aren't too bad. They can be a little challenging but you can do it without pulling out the engine. It just takes a little dexterity. The grinding you're hearing is probably the rear wheel bearing, which you say you need to replace so that will probably take care of 2 birds with one stone. As for parts...it kinda depends on what you need. Nate Gustafson is a great resource for parts. He's 1986Nate on this club and someone you really want to get to know. He's a wealth of knowledge and can help you find the parts you need. For new parts, you can get them from subaruparts.com as well as a few other online sites. Subaruparts.com is nice because they have a lot of the diagrams posted so you can figure out what parts you actually need. http://subaruparts.com/parts/1993/Su...40&searchText=

Re: Getting started
Hi Alan,
We're all SVX-a-holics too, so welcome ! There's a ton of rear wheel bearing info available - use the search function. They can be a bit tricky, but I've done them - so you can do them too . The rear wing is fiber glass - there's good info on repainting and fixing it in the factory service manual. You can find all sections here: http://phantomotaku.com/SVX/ The grinding noise can be a number of things - check the brakes too. A friend could listen outside when you're driving in circles.... you may be able to get more info that way. Kind regards from Finland, Tapani |
