Phase I to Phase II 4eat swap

I am picking up a 99 imprezza/legacy transmission on Monday. I am also grabbing up all of the wiring and sensors I can with it. I will try and snag the TCU as well. I still need a car to test it on so it won't be anytime too close in the future. This will open up a whole new avenue for 4.44 swaps in the future since most PhaseII 4eats are 4.44. That and they have a VTD AWD control which most of know is a superior system to our tranfer clutches

Is it a simple mapping of pinouts to connect to our ECU? Or would our ecu need modifictions to accept the new TCU?

I am not sure yet. i am going to gather everything that is different than what we have while I am there and take a closer look. Should be as simple as splicing the wires from the ecu into the new TCU and running the TCU wiring down to the transmission and other sensors/resistors... Like I said, I cannot go any further right now until I have both the transmission and supporting parts as well as an SVX to work with

if anyone can find them... I need the ECU pin-outs for both the SVX and the 99 legacy/imprezza. This is my missing link as of right now

Hi Tom,

I am getting the info translated and sent to me from Japan to fit the Legacy RSK B4 twin turbo 5 speed tiptronic box (late 98 to date) with the steering wheel shifters.

There are 2 in Japan I know about and they work perfectly in the SVX, the info should give all the details of wire codes and how to do it. I should help you out with the SVX side of the wireing atleast.

I was going to go down the 6speed Sti manual route but will fit the 5speed tiptronic, its the best of all worlds, auto or semi automatic manual! The box is more than upto the power and torque for an SVX, the RSK is over 280bhp as standard.

Cheers
Darren.

Yeah, I have a lot of work ahead of me... The SVX wiring is not my concern as I am quite familiar with it as of now... Just getting the right signals to the new TCU is gonna be tough

Hey Darren,
I had a thought like this the other day and then came accross your post - as you say it is the best of both worlds and perfect for the SVx. Let me know how you go / trouble you have as I'm interested.

cheers
bruce
