auto trans and steering pump problem

svx 1996...
trans oil change every 30,000 miles.

problem 1. when the trans is cold it doesn't shift from 2 to 3. once is warm works okay, but it slips somethings abruptly, it revs up and then engages in the gear... i heard is the seals, and it can be fix with an additive... how true is this? and long is going to last... also told it may need a band adjustment... also can you please recommend an atf additive? is there any way to fix this without a rebuild?

problem 2. the steering pump was changed. he then put brake fluid dot 3 instead of the atf. he said it doesn't matter because dot 3 is hydraulic too. now i'm scare the steering assembly is leaking... was this smart?

thanks for you help....

I would suggest synthetic trans fluid. I has a similar problem in my Jeep and after I changed the fliud with synthetic the problem went away.

no if it didnt matter they wouldn't make 2 diffrent types of fluid... as to what this might do... i couldnt tell you never seen it and never been tempted to try it...
