power antenna estimate

as you may remember a few days ago I had my run in w/ the gate. anyways, MSU risk managment team came out and looked at it and are agreeing to pay for the damages. I just have to provide them with a few quotes. So off I go to the local subbie dealer, where the shop manager LOVES the SVX. From him I get:

$215 for antenna
$145 for labor

So I was like ok, whatever, got my quote took off went to my friends sterio shop in Lansing. I told him to charge me what he would charge anyone else, comes back w/ a quote of $211.99!!

Am I just wrong in thinking both those are WAY too much? Can't you go to meijers and pick up a power antenna for like $50? Or is there something special about the genuine subaru antenna I dont know about?

It it just break the mast off? If the motor is still making noise you can buy just the mast portion from subaruparts for about $38 and install it in about an hour.

So.. if you can get them to pay $200+ you'll be in good shape

You can buy the whole antenna w/ motor for $152 if needed

Installation is not hard (at least I don't think so). Unless the parts are expensive. Can't you just go to a junk yard and take one out of another suby and stick it in?

obviously I can goto svx parts.com or a junk yard, even though last time there were only 2 subarus in the junk yard! loyals I think. but I'm lazy, they are paying for it, so yeah :-) Plus my reception has always been bad in the subby, I'll let these guys fix it for me. That or maybe I'll do all the work myself and pocket the money. My time costs a lot of $

The thing about the SVX antenna is that there is an angled neck from the motor. I don't know if it's common to any other Subaru.

Re: power antenna estimate

I got quoted about $260 from the dealer installed, which I thought was high. I had the whole system (motor/mast) replaced at a local stereo shop for $80!!!!
