Unhappy Close Call. Almost lost my SVX.

Yesterday I was coming home from the dentist. I got on 70 and was almost to my exit when I was coming close to an SUV towing an RV trailer. Note: I was in the fast lane and the SUV was in the slow lane. I noticed this guys trailer starting to swerve as he went into a turn. I started to slow down, because it started to get really bad. I was hoping he would have enough sense to control it. All of the sudden the guy jack knifes and crosses in front of me. He then hit the guard rail which finally stopped the vehicle. I quickly swerved to the right on to the shoulder...just missing him. I slowed down but I didn't stop until I was far enough away to avoid getting hit by anyone swerving to avoid the accident. The police asked everyone else to leave except me because I was a primary witness. So they had shut down 70 to allow a helicopter come in. The couple (and dog) involved in the accident were alright...a little beat up, but alive. After the police got my info and everything I was able to leave. For once in a lifetime I was able to drive on 70 alone! So I am thankful to still have my car. It seems that when you drive these days you have to watch what other people are doing. You just never know what they will do.

Gosh, that sounds waaaay too close for comfort Thank goodness you spotted him as a potential hazard and kept your eye on him.

Also a good plug for SVX safety and maneuverability.

And I'll bet that the superior handling characteristics of the SVX had no small part to play in your ability to avoid your own involvement in the accident.

That would be my general drivng rule: Drive like everyone else out there is going to do the supidest possible thing at any moment. Live by that rule and you will avoid many accidents.

Awsome driving BTW.

Glad you are ok and able to move out of the way.... I barely missed being hit by another "in the process of wrecking" car a couple years ago and it was very scary. He catapulted in front of me.... had I been just 5-10 seconds further down the road, he would have taken me with him....

Glad U are OK. I wish traffic rules apply correctly over here too. To save ourselves and our cars, we do offensive driving. How i missed driving safely...

If I hadn't slowed down he would have definitely had me pinned into the guard rail. Some debris did hit my car and left a couple scratches, but it matches the other scratches.

It's weird. Back in December I had gotten a 2000 Dodge Neon to replace my old car (Suzuki Sidekick) because it couldn't pass emissions. Exactly three months later a lady pulled out in front of me and I wrecked that car. I've had my SVX for three months and then I have this close call. I'm starting to believe I'm cursed
