5 speed complete - need bushings now

Hi guys,

Just got my car back after two months in the shop for the conversion. A 4.11 was installed in it from a 2000 RS with a 1999 RS rear diff.

The car is shifting smoothly, no warning lights on the dash and it looks faily clean.
However first gear feels terrible. From the posts i've read on this site, i was expecting the low end to improve significantly. My automatic can outrun this one. It should be noted that there is a large hole in the exhaust pipe between the downpipe and the center cat. Hopefully i will be satified after i correct the situation.

Here is why i need bushings. During a swift take-off there is rubbing/shaking coming from the rear end. My mechanic said it was the rear diff cuased by the swaying from the high torque. Apparently i need new bushings for the tranny mount and rear diff.

Just wanted to know what you guys thought of this analysis and where and what kind of bushings i could get.
Also, where can i get polyeurethane sway bar bushings. I checked energy suspension's site but the svx is not listed.

Thanks.

Most of the time it ends up that the left cat vibrates against the front tranny crossmember.

I'm also looking into getting custom mounts/bushings made for our cars. I'm still waiting for some worn examples from which to copy.

I'd suggest you PM the folks on the site who have done the 5spd mod (David included!) -- Mychailo, Jesse and Huck would be at the top of my "5spd Guru list".

hmm...check the exhaust and make sure its not close enough that when launched hard it would contact the driveshaft...or up front on the left cat area...just a thought

Summit has Energy Suspention bushings, part # 95121g that are a quick bolt in for the rear, and part # 95105g will work in the front, with minor fitting.
Chi ke has a write up in the "how to" section, listed as "Winter mod".

I got the exhaust pipes replaced today; it sounds much better and offers a great kick.

As for the shuddering in the rear, i found that there is no gear box mount which is contributing to the instability of the rear diff. Also there is an occasional squeal coming from the tranny when on the gas. There is no tranny/gearbox cover; could road particles be getting into the gears cuasing the squeal?

Are there polyurethane tranny and rear diff bushings available for the svx?

Thanks.

Parts waiting to be installed:

Stebro exhaust
Ecu tune stage1
18" wheels with toyo T1S

Future mods:

Metallic Charcoal paint
tint
custom bodykit (haven't forgotten - work will start soon)
Custom air intake

Earthworm, have you tried any wreckers in manitoba? I spoke to one in ontario today who told me they recently crushed their svx because there was no more useful parts they could take from it. I'm certain they didn't take of any of the bushings.

I was not aware there was one in Ontario. How did you find out about that one?

This weekend, I'm going to be making up some rear subframe stiffening spacers. I'm going to be using slices of 1/8" thick polyurethane rubber. I got a 1 foot x 1 foot sheet from McMaster-Carr for $30. I'll take pictures and provide specs.

Tom, lay off the Asti; he meant the diff not the sway bar bushings. Hell I'm half in a box O' vine and I knew that

I used E-150 radius arm bushings cut in half to stiffen my rear end up, but I never really had a shuttering problem. Usually you will get a ****tering if you have a bad driveshaft angle or a weak tranny crossmember.

Did they leangthen the driveshaft or use a spacer? I'm really not a big fan of the spacer, I think it throws the whole balance out of wack. Also alot of tranny X-members are not up to the H.P. that an EG33 can throw down.

Does anyone have old rear diff bushings? I still want to have ones custom made for us.
