Windshield???

Windshield got dinged this morning on the way to work and immediately ran about a foot.... I have comprehensive but the glass company I called can't find one??? Anyone have a windshield replaced lately and/or know a company that stocks one?

Thanks,

Bill

You probably don't want to hear this, but your best bet would be to take a trip to your Subaru dealership and talk to them about getting a replacement.

I had mine replaced a few months ago. Subaru dealerships are the only places that carry brand new SVX windshields. The aftermarket companies stopped selling them a while ago, at least in the North East.

The glass place that did mine (twice) got it from the Subbie dealer.

When you get in afterware, check for distorted view. Mine was replaced twice. 1st for the crack , then because the new windshield was distorted. Sit in the driver seat and look out the window about 3 inches above the dash. The one that is in there now (#2) has some distortion, also, however it is much less than the first replacement. I think they may not use the UV protection anymore either. (My EZPass works through the windshield)

If your insurance company handles such claims in the manner of Nationwide (my carrier), they will want to find the glass and specify the shop. I've had two windshields replaced and one repaired (on other Subies); always at my location and by an establishment chosen by Nationwide.

Ditto, dealership-only item. Cost: depends on where you are.... mine was $1000.
Luckily insurance paid for most of it.

Last summer I had mine replaced as well. The body shop said they could only find one aftermarket company that offered one. National Auto Glass, I think is what thier name was but they wanted $3000 for the glass alone. So ended up getting it from the dealership for $950.
