removing dummy button...

I just bought a factory security system. I've read through a bunch of threads trying to figure out how to pop out the dummy button, but its still not clear to me. Can I just pry off the dummy button that sits in the location of security button, or do I need to pop out the entire button cluster to get the dummy button off? Thanks!

You don't HAVE to remove the entire cluster to get that button off but I think you're going to be removing the cluster regardless.

You'll need to pop out the entire cluster. Use a small flatbladed screwdriver on the outer edge (careful not to scratch the surround or dig into the switch) and pull with your index finger on the inner edge (closest the steering wheel). Should pop out easily. From there, you can figure how to replace the switch.

Enjoy it. I know I do. I only wish we had the Japanese "handle lift" keyless entry. The Japanese models were created so that, (as I understand it) depending on the number of times and frequency with which you lifted the door handle, it would unlock the doors. You could set your own pattern just like programming the remote.

Just going from memory (dangerous at my age ) I think if you check Lwin's locker (Seraph) he has a detailed description, with pics on how to remove the buttons.

Just as I suspected - my memory HAS gone
It's not in Seraph's locker, but it's out there somewhere because I printed it off a while back (I think).

For instructions on removing the bank o' buttons look for instructions on putting in those funky white gauges. It includes how to remove those.
