brake problems
Hi folks
Since 3 days I have the following problem with the brakes: When speed is up then 60 km/h (about 40 mph) and I brake harder, I feel vibrations on the brakepedal and the steering-wheel vibrates. Any idea what this could be? Replace the brakepads or let drag the brakedisc? I had to go so or so in garage for make the 225'000 km service. Thanx Kusi |

hey kusi-
a vibrating feeling during braking indicates warped brake ROTORS (or possibly improperly torqued lugnuts on your wheels). a vibrating feeling during braking which is accompanied by a vibrating steering wheel indicates warped FRONT rotors.. you could get them machined down or "resurfaced" but as many people will agree, you're just taking a rotor which is already too thin for the car and making it thinner.. hope i helped -adam |

Hello Kusi
I agree 100% with Adam's diagnosis. Front rotor/s warped. With the kms you have on the running gear, your rotors [disks we call them] are worn, you need to replace them. A replacement pair in the UK is about £125, which is about 185 Euro. Regards torquing the wheelnuts. Very few service centres do this properly, and with the SVX, if done wrong it leads to stress warping. Your owner manual probably indicates how to do it, but just in case make sure it is done as follows: when tightening the wheel nuts, there are five to a wheel, call them 1 through 5 counting in sequence around the wheel. Most service centres will completely tighten them up starting with 1, going on to 2, 3 etc. This is very wrong. The correct sequence is first partially tighten all nuts, starting with 1, going diagonally to 3, then doing 5, then doing 2, and lastly 4. Next, retighten in the same sequence again, but this time torquing up to the proper full poundage. This avoids putting pressure on the disk off-centre, which can cause the rotor to run out of true or with a slight warp. You will see a major improvement in braking with new disks. Joe

Plum loco!!!!
Quote:
Intercontinental: because it is a continent-bashing high speed express. ballistic: because it looks like and goes like a projectile, and plum: as Andy says, check the locker, it is black over claret, and with the purple suede interior, looks plum loco, as above. Joe

Hey Green Marine
Can you imagine your comrades in the Gulf bombarding the Presidential guard with ballistic plums, and the Iraqis replying with mortar melons and cluster-dates?? Joe
