funky shifting problem
I'm frequently stuck in gridlock on these *awesome* south CA freeways, and stop-and-go is a way of life here. Anyways, when coming to a stop in this traffic, since I'm driving slowly anyways, I usually let my foot off the gas, coast for a little ways, then hit the brake... However, hitting the brake isn't necessary sometimes. Sometimes, traffic gets moving again before I have to brake. So, I lightly press on the gas again, to cautiously accelerate.
However, when I do this, typically between a range of 5 - 25 mph, the rpm's go down about 200 - 300, and then the gears engage, causing a type of light-slamming. It does this no matter what gear I have the selector in, except for 1st. Does anyone have any clue what might be doing this, and how to fix it? It's definitely an annoyance, but I'm also concerned about what it might be doing to my tranny. Any ideas?? |

As a first resort you should check the TPS. Not a time consuming, difficult or dirty job. Have a look in the how too stuff. Even if you do not achieve a fix the job will be worth doing.
