Whistling noise next to alternator
Hi guys, a quick question to identify the part and tell me if it is something to worry about. To the right of the alternator there is a cylindrical part attached to the engine (excuse my ignorance if I don't know what it is) from which I have noticed a whistling type noise eminating recently. What would it be and is it serious. My SVX has about 190K on the clock has had a new timimg belt put in some 10K ago and has been running beautifully. Any information would be welcome.

Re: Whistling noise next to alternator
To the right of the alternator is the air con compressor, it has a belt and pulley/clutch.

Re: Whistling noise next to alternator
Many thanks - thought it may be something to do with the air con.Suspect it may be a slipping belt squeaking!

Re: Whistling noise next to alternator
On the right as you look at it from the front of the car? If to the right as you sit in the car it could be the Power Steering pump. Often the oring between the pump and reservoir leaks air which can cause noise.
