Any one installed a different subaru dual DIN radio?
I really like OEM radios, especially with their BT, aux and handsfree gizmos. So, I was curious if anyone swapped their head unit with another one from a different Subaru?
In the Toyota world, the Scion FR-S head unit is the rage and I'll be installing one of those into the 4Runner. I bet I can install the same one into the SVX as well if it fits properly. Anyway, just curious.

Re: Any one installed a different subaru dual DIN radio?
I have an '02 Legacy radio in my '92. A lot of folks like the WRX radios for the SVX. Most late 90's and early 2000's will work. There's a member of this forum that makes wiring harnesses to do the swap without cutting any wires. They are well made and it makes a very clean job of it. Awesome that's good info. Can you post up a picture or two of your setup please? I'm hoping to find a Pioneer made Subaru OEM stereo but we'll see what I can find for a decent price.
Thank you and a happy NY to everyone !!

Re: Any one installed a different subaru dual DIN radio?
The SVX's radio dash opening is 2-DIN. Older Subaru radios will fit, but newer ones all have a non-standard size larger face that won't fit. In general, radios from these models/years will fit:
Unfortunately, all of the Subaru radios that have built-in Bluetooth have the larger face that won't fit. The only ones with aux are model C-124 (used in 2007 Impreza/WRX/STi) and C-123 (from 2007-2008 Forester). All of those are getting a bit "long in the tooth". You'll probably be happier with an aftermarket radio. See this PDF in the How-To section here: WRX Stereo Install Also see this thread: Finally a Subaru 6 disc for the anal- no cutting required If you do go with an alternate OEM Subaru radio, I can still put together an SVX-to-14 pin adapter harness: Contact me by e-mail. If you send a PM, include your e-mail address. Here are pictures of a few different Subaru radios in SVXs: 2004 Impreza P129.jpg

Awesome info, thank you very much. I'll contact you when the time comes. Not sure what to do with my mondo case full of cassette decks though

Re: Any one installed a different subaru dual DIN radio?
I had a 2004 WRX Radio in mine. 6 Disc changer and cassette player but no AUX in or Bluetooth. It looked good but I never thought it quite looked like it belonged.
I replaced it with a aftermarket, a Sony Double Din single CD with Bluetooth. I picked it because it was not too gawdy and you could change the color to a green that was a pretty good match. I think it fits the space better and feels like it goes well with the interior. I really love having the Bluetooth for streaming music and the occasional call. I know a lot of people like the touchscreens but I wanted something with a little more traditional look, and a smaller price tag. (I used the wiring adapter from SVXdc)
