I'm Back!!!

Okay, so I really wasn't gone but it had been a few months since I had logged on. I got very busy with work changing locations as well as myself moving. Shortly before Christmas I was T-boned by a Ram that I was fortunate enough to walk away from thanks to Volvo engineering. Since following that I had a week off of work, followed by two week trip back "home" to Wisconsin, it worked as a refreshment of sorts and has me getting back here and focusing on the SVX again. So, with that being said, as many of you already know, anything you need, feel free to ask.

Oh, and pics of the carnage for those of you not on facebook. The Ram was doing 55 in a 35mph zone.

Let me know if you can't see it, and if anyone wants to edit it so it shows up on the page, feel free. I can't remember how to do it and despite being 27, I absolutely fail with technology. I had a bruised kidney and other bruising. No spine, neck, head injuries or whiplash of any sort.

Yes, side impact as well as curtain. Without the curtain, I'm sure I'd be suffering severe head trauma. I'm also pretty sure had the impact been about 4-6 inches further back, I'd be in much worse shape. He barely clipped the front a-pillar frame. The bumper went into the car nearly 2 feet as is (21-22 inches measured from the wheel line)
So needless to say, my Christmas and New years was spent visiting everyone I could and being extremely thankful to be alive.

Re: I'm Back!!!

Really glad that you are fine and has not had bad injury from the crash.

Is that Volvo still driveable lol? You can use only the passenger's door to get in and out.

Volvos are definitely safe cars. I don't know how well an SVX will do to this crash? On top of my head, I think the Tesla Model S will do as good or better than this crash. That Model S is a tank.

Except for the part where they catch fire and burn to the ground, I might agree.

Welcome back Nate, glad you weren't hurt badly. That's a nasty looking impact. I lol'd at the comment "Clean Carfax!!!" on the Facebook page.

Re: I'm Back!!!

2004 S60. If we could get access to the OBD2 port which is now demolished, we could reset the fuel pump as it's shut off anytime an airbag blows on a Volvo and it would at least run and move. We believe the steering column is broken.

Any of the AWD post 2004 have proven to be pretty solid. By then, they sorted out the driveshaft and angle gear (transfer case) issues. Once in awhile the spline sleeves fail which is about a $100 part from Volvo and takes about 2-3 hrs depending on the shop. Front control arm bushings go at about 125-175k miles. watch for sludge if they haven't had oil changes every 3-5k miles at most with synthetic. CEM modules are common, most noticeable culprit is one headlight going out while the bulb is still good. It houses most of the relays and circuits for everything electronic and they tend to overheat at times. Front bearings we've run across with these higher mileage cars but they're simple and bolt in. I can do them in about 20 min. Overall, well and solid built cars. Easy to work on and they don't rust away. The cheaper insurance and safety knowing everyone will be safe is a nice bonus and they do make quite a few performance models that are tuneable and very fun to drive. The C4 suspension on the R models and some higher trim s80's tend to be problematic but you can always swap in the "normal" mcpherson strut design. Very good aftermarket support as far as replacement parts as well as performance.

Ah I m not gonna debate here which car is safer or better based on the prejudices from the rumors or anything. Research, research.

caught fire and burned to ground lol? True, out of all the model S on the road today, there're so far 3 fire, no one was injured. Do you actually know how they caught fire and what happened? lol

What will happen if at the same scenario was happened to the gasoline car? There're already thousands of fire incidents happened to the BMWs and Mercedes-Benzs today? What has people said?

Do you know how Paul Walker was died in an accident? There's more like a caught fire or worse and burned to ground. There's a $500,000 Porsche speeding at 90mph, hit a tree, broke into pieces, and burned to ground. On the second fire incident from the Model S, the drunk driver was doing way over triple-digit speed and hit a tree, and walked away, and then it just starts catching fire.

I m not related to Tesla or a fan of Elon Musk, just think the Model S is a great safe car. Just think how unfair from how people judge the car from the incidents.

Re: I'm Back!!!

Apparently I'm making accidents a yearly tradition now...

Rolled it Thanksgiving Day morning on my way back to WI for the holidays. Completely uninjured other than a scrape on my shin.(amazing considering the tools, etc that were in the cab) Snowy roads when a crosswind gust hit. I had the truck in 2wd and also had an empty tow dolly behind so i couldn't correct it.
