Question clutch choice, please help

I'm doing a 5 speed swap and I'm trying to get opinions on the different clutches that people have used.
How does your pedal feel?
How smooth is the engagement?
How well does it handle the torque?
How much would it cost me to buy it?
Where would I get it?
And, What is the part number or what is the application?

Thanks,
Jay

I'm stilll working on mine, but...

I have an Exedy (Daiken) lightweight chromoly flywheel and Exedy "Sport" clutch. I got them for $600 shipped brand new from a guy on NASIOC who decided to go with a 6 speed after he'd already bought them. I got quite a deal on them These pieces typically go for well over $700 plus shipping. I wanted a lightweight flywheel, but I'm not a fan of two piece flywheels.

You can get this set-up from a number of vendors on nasioc.

I used an RPS clutch set with a 90 Legacy factory flywheel(18lbs) and it works great. Handles the power, but feels like a stock clutch. It uses a factory disc with a beefy pressure plate for very smooth engagement. It cost me $336.

Stephen,
Do you know any part numbers for the setup you have? I checked out their web site and I didn't find exactly what you were referring to. If you don't have a part number a link would work just as well.

Thanks a bunch,
Jay

i've been considereing a stock WRX clutch. My friend has his laying around w/ 150 miles on it, since he upgraded to a act stage 3 the 1st day he got it. Gave it to me when I got my 5 speed tranny.

Anyone run one of those?

lots of stuff

Here goes,

GreenMarineSVX: I'm definitely still trying to make a clutch choice. I'd like to talk to you about your guy's clutches. Feel free to give me a call tonight at home. I should be there by about 5:30 and then I'll probably be there all night. I usually head to bed at around tenish or a little after. Home Phone: 603-332-4829

EverclearAtMSU: Isn't the WRX clutch a different type somehow? I know it and the early 90's turbo Legacys used a "pull type" clutch, but I think they are just referring to the slave cylinder opperation when they say that. I have checked a couple different clutch sites and they aways seem to list the same parts for the 2.2L and the 2.5L engines but the 2.2 Turbo ones always have different part numbers. I don't know it is just bolt patterns or diameter or if there are bigger differences for these clutches.

elninoalex: Thanks for the info. I'll take that to their site and check it out.

Ok, I think that covers everything.

Thanks again everyone,
Jay

cool

No big deal about timing. Another few hours or a day isn't going to make too much difference.

Thanks again,
