The center caps can be modified by filling in the recessed "Subaru" and painting over.

That will not look stocked.

Spare center lights

If anyone wants a spare center panel for around $60 plus shipping, I might have one or two available. You could experiment with this while yours is on your car, or send it to Lwin to have him do some mod work on it.

Zombie Thread!!!

I'm bringing this thread back because I wouldn't mind having a step by step how to for debadging the rear center bar. OT has a tailbar that is blank and I wouldn't mind having something like that.

Could someone do a How to?

Thanks in advance.

I used my oven and a heat gun for the part of the light bar that stuck out of my oven to heat the glue up enough to separate the halves of the rear light bar. Inside there was a plastic diffuser and then the thin plastic piece w/ the logo on it. As suggested somewhere else, I used fingernail polish remover and a rag to scrub off the logo. I think strait acetone would have been more efficient. I had to lay tissue paper over what I wanted to remove and soak it w, polish remover for about 5 minutes before I could scrub it off. I left some marks in the plastic from where I was rubbing too hard at first, so some plastic polish made it all better. Just heat it all back up and squeeze it together. It may be too hot for some hands, so some cloth gloves could come in handy.

The first one that I did it was 90°f outside and with a small screwdriver and some patience it came right apart.

The second one that I tried to do it was 70°f out , same procedure and I cracked it.

It's funny seeing previous posts from the pasts of yourself. But anyway. I used one heatgun and slowly pulled it apart. Then I pulled out the whole plastic sheet and resealed it.

Thanks guys. I have an extra tailbar after putting the Alcyone one on my claret, but I don't know if I want to mess that one up or not. OT (or anyone else) do you have a spare one lying around for a good price?

Heyyyyyy....

It's hard to believe I'm about to hit 6 years of ownership with the SVX.

It's kinda funny thinking about it though. I dreamt of all these things I wanted to do to my car back then, and most of the things I have already done...

Minus the 5 speed and 300+ HP

Funny story. I have a small heater that I use to heat up my room fast because my regular heater is crappy. Well I was sitting there and i was thinking hm...I wonder if using that heater would work. It did and it was much easier than sticking the thing in the oven because I was able to monitor the temperature of the plastic closely. Well after much prying and pain and patience...I got the tailbar apart. I will post pictures and what I did later after my ribs stop hurting and some sleep.

BTW I don't recommend doing this if you can't breathe because your ribs feel like they're going to explode out of your chest.

At least this gave me something to do while I've spent the night sick as a dog.

Basically I used a small (but powerful) space heater. I set one end facing the heater for about 10 minutes. I began to slowly pry the end open using a small screw driver. Then I started down each side heating them up and prying them open. I used a few misc. items to keep the tailbar split so that it wouldn't go back together. So after about two hours of heating and slowly splitting I got the pieces apart. Here is what they look like.

As you can see there is a film that has the Subaru SVX written on it.

Then I used nail polish remover to take the Subaru SVX off. I used a mixture of a paper towel, cotton balls, and toilet paper to soak the nail polish remover and lay it on the badge for a minute. Then scrubbed it off.

I haven't put the tailbar entirely back together yet. But I will probably heat up the glue the same way I detached it. I may run out to find some glue to use as back up.

The final product...

This takes a lot of time, patience, and determination. I would recommend finding an extra tailbar to practice on before using the one off of your car. That way if you break it it won't matter as much.

This is what it looks like on the SVX. This is OT or svxfiles SVX...
