Bleeding twin tube shocks

Just something I noticed,

Twin tube shocks (like Koni Sport inserts for the SVX) need to be bled prior to installation. Holding the shock upright in the as installed position extend it fully and keep there - then invert it and compress it slowly - keep it there and return it to the normal position. Repeat a few times.

This will bleed any and all possible air from the inner tube - air might enter the inner tube during horizontal storage.

The inserts I bought from e-bay had almost 2" of "nothing" fully extended.

Just needed bleeding as described above.

Oh, what a difference !

The local importer is cool - they put my shocks on the "dyno" for free, just to make sure they are all right ! We even tried the rebound adjustment on each insert. Works real well.

It is an old skool mechanical Koni set up from 1973, but works great. The shocks are right on the money compared to spec (had to go to a 1996 catalogue to find them )

The tech explained all the details designed in the behaviour (luxury touring car) - and also how every little thing can be changed with detail mods to the valving, if required.

At this point I am more than satisfied (even) with the OEM springs. I left the rears at 3/4 of turn more rebound and the fronts at 1/2 a turn.

Feels good, well worth the money and effort.
