Fuel Economy

I have just this week completed a 1363 km round trip and achieved 8.9 litres/100 km driving at just over 100 km/hr (2050 rpm) & using cruise control 95% of the time. This is the best fuel economy I have ever achieved on an open road trip.

How does this compare to others?

Re: Fuel Economy

Not bad but you still have room to improve.

While the SVX is rated for 9.4L/100km highway, a lot of people have reported about 8.0L/100km and maybe even a hair better.

Re: Fuel Economy

I've hit 7.8l/100km, getting better mileage than the '05 Forester that was doing the same trip with me. On a 1500 KM drive I'm within $5 total of my friends' 240SX and Prelude.

Re: Fuel Economy

7.8-8.0 l/100 km is excellent, esp. for a 1600 kg car with 4WD, a 4 speed auto & whose aerodynamic & mechanical designs go back 20 years.

I doubt I could do much better over the same distance as NZ's hilly geography & windy roads would prohibit this. Having said that, I might be able to achieve 8.5 L/100 km if I dropped the speed a tad & was a little lighter on the gas when passing.

Even so, there is no significant reason to fork out for a more modern car to save an additional 1-2 L/100 km. Besides, it just wouldn't look as nice.

Speaking of which, on every single day of this week, I had someone approach me asking "what the hell is that? - nice car - cool windows - awesome spoiler". You don't get that in a Ford Mondeo.

Re: Fuel Economy

Mine has done under 8 on longer trips in its lifetime. Pity it is over double that consumption in the city!!

Re: Fuel Economy

The six speed is rubbish on fuel consumption...

...But it sure makes up for it in smile emissions!

Re: Fuel Economy

The best fuel economy that I achieved was 7.9 L/100km - but that was at a near-constant 100km/h. I normally get around 12.5 L/100km in normal driving.

To improve your fuel economy, I highly recommend that the oxygen sensors be replaced if they are still the original ones.
