Svx S4?

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the JDM SVX L and S4? I know the L is essentually the JDM versions of the LS-L/LSi models...save for the different AWD set-up and the 4WS....But what exactly sets the S4 apart from the other models? And are there any other JDM or Euro Spec SVX models that I should be aware of?

Sort of right, if you ignore '91 - '94.

All JDM SVXs manufactured from '95 onward were known as the S4.

Prior to '95 you had the S3, Version L, Version E and others.

If I have got my facts straight, in 1995 Subaru Japan standardised SVX production with only one basic specification level based on the previous top spec level (Version L).

I think the external differences are the change to a different grill (not the waterfall) and the BBS alloys.

I think the only options (apart from colour interior/exterior) were the sunroof and spoiler.

In 1995 there were 703 S4s registered in Japan, in 1996, 385 and in 1997 there was 2.

If I am wrong, needless to say, someone will correct me.

IIRC, the S4 has four wheel steering but I could be mistaken.

Also, it's Suby. Two consonants following a vowel make the vowel sound short, so ""Subby" would be pronounced suh-bee, rather than the soo-bee that it's supposed to be.

Only the early cars (pre-S3) had the 4WS, the S4 only has the passive "skateboard" RWS like all the the other SVXs.

Correct. Only the Version L had 4WS.
