fans not working

I rarely get stuck in traffic.
Today, I did for 10-15 minutes. Enough for the temp guage to go up close to the red zone. So I chacked all the fuses and relays, one of them was corroded.I them switched it for the AC relay hoping to find the problem. They just wont start.I am definitely pissed. thermostat? temp sensor? Where is the tesmp sensor? the fan connectors are fine, the fuses are ok too. I can't believe it.
I read posts where fans won't stop, but none where they won't start.Another post mentionned something about the 20 amp cig light fuse beeing the culprit for many problems.I know mine don,t work, but I could never relate that and the rad fans not working.
Is there a way i can just bypass the system and have a switch to turn them on and off as i please?

Not to my knowledge. Check all fuses in your car, Physically pull them out and look at them. Make sure your fans are actually plugged in all the way.

Re: fans not working

Actually, the fans are connected, the thermostat is ok. The AC doesn't seem to work either.I tested various fuse poerts with my multimeter this morning, and the 2 fuse ports for the 25 amp fan fuses do not give any reading. The fan connectors don't get any juice . I wonder where is the missing link here. I'll look at the electrical diagram, but if you know anything about this, please let me know!!

thanks

Re: fans not working

Same thing happened to me...The rad. wasn`t getting hot on the bottom, top was hot....Changed the therm. , water then started circulating through the rad. and fans stated working again, and the a/c worked too....Now it`s doing it again, but when I changed the t/stat I used a gereric one from autozone.....Going to the SUBARU dealer and get the stock one....

Re: fans not working

The reason I suggested maybe the fan motors were bad, not the chances that both would go bad at the same time but the possibility that one could go bad and you wouldn't necessarily know it. If the other one went bad, sitting in traffic would bring that to your attention.
It happened to me.

There are 5 different relays involved in controlling the cooling fans.

Are you going "pot luck" and start buying relays when chances are the relays are not even the problem

A Subaru dealer can give you the prices.

Not my usual M.O., but that would be one step forward.
I think they cost around 7 bucks
