2009 WRX265s have an appetite for engines
Not looking good, seems that the new 265 HP WRX's are going through engines pretty quick. As in, 7500 miles and less, as little as 150. Some of the replaced engines have even gone.
NASIOC thread So far two guys back home have brought their cars in with badly knocking rods.

Re: 2009 WRX265s have an appetite for engines
Should we start a poll on what ends up to be the defective part / defective assembly step? This is definitely not a good thing for Subaru.

Re: 2009 WRX265s have an appetite for engines
poll should have choice Full Throttle launches at all times..
wonder what the mod list is on the failed cars. Side note, maybe i will find a cheap one with toasted motor, to transplant my ej22t into from my RUSTY 92

Re: 2009 WRX265s have an appetite for engines
There was a TSB out on the turbo cars, involves draining the oil through a filter, checking for metal bits, installing a magnetic drain plug, revving the snot out of the engine and listening for noises, if there are noises or chunks over a certain size in the oil, you replace the engine, if not then it just gets an oil change and a magnetic drain plug.

I hope it's not something major. With this economic climate, any bad press is devastating.

Re: 2009 WRX265s have an appetite for engines
Yeah and we all know how Subaru fixes things, although a rod knock is a lot harder to fix with a bottle of snake oil (cooling conditioner) than the leaky head gaskets were...

Re: 2009 WRX265s have an appetite for engines
why would you rev the snot out of a car. thats sounds bad juju-leading to spun bearing
this will be the fait of Subaru. they can't survive either in a dismal market, even though they had sales increase. Its costs money to be in operation, and there is not enough profit margin to justify staying in for the haul. FUJI not making a profit on cars either. . Quote:

Re: 2009 WRX265s have an appetite for engines
You're supposed to snap the throttle to like 5,000 RPM and listen for noises or something to that effect. It was not really a TSB in teh normal sense, all unsold turbo models had to be checked before they were put up for sale, according to the regional service manager, they had several that developed rod knocks and wanted to catch any other ones before they were sold.
We haven't actually had any 08 or 09 turbo models come in with any funny noises or anything... We did have a WRX come in with first gear's teeth completely stripped off the mainshaft though, but it was an older one :P

Re: 2009 WRX265s have an appetite for engines
Apparently a couple of the STi's are having issues with the tranny kicking out of 2nd gear also.
