0W30 Engine Oil???

Has anyone else seen this 0W30 Mobile 1 engine oil? It says it is supposed to be better than 5/10w30, and I was wondering your opinions.

I saw this at WalMart when I was picking up oil for the Forester.

I used 0w-20 on my hi comp AE86. I see no issues with running the oil. I just don't use Mobil, but I can't really imagine it being bad at all. Might start leaking through some old gaskets though.

No, straight 30 AKA SAE30 would be considered 30w30 lol

The first number in oil ratings is the viscosity(flow) of the oil in winter (cold temps) and thats what the "w" stands for and the second number is the viscosity at 100degC or 212degF. So basically the second number is the thickness of the oil at normal engine operating temps and the first is how well it is going to flow and lubricate parts in very cold temps. This also applies to any gear oil or lubricant that is rated in this way.

Yeah the previous post is absolutely correct..... what ive seen from experience though is that 0W oil is extremely thin..... and easily leaks past worn seals. In addition to that, if the engine burns oil at all, it will be even worse with 0W oil as it will escape past the rings and valve seals easier and be burned in the combustion chamber. Its good for efficiency with a newer engine (doesnt impede crankshaft rotation as much as a thicker oil), but on an older engine it just burns off quicker. I personally dont trust such a thin oil.... especially if you plan to do freeway driving or live in a warmer climate. 5W/30 is thin enough lol.

I got 200000 miles in 4 years, using it from the first 500 mile change. No engine problems at all, still idled like new. Tried it in the svx, mine tends to get an oil smell when I use it, switched to the high-milage mobil1, no complaints. I'll switch back when I do a reseal. I always figured I would want my oil to flow well when cold so it gets to the farthest parts of the engine faster. Of course, I have to admit, my opinion is worth exactly $0.

edit: This included living in the central valley of California, and ski trips in the winter.
