Re: electrical questions after 5spd swap

Hello All!

Now, my only problem is the starter. Since I had done the 5mt swap, the car starts bad. I use a Legacy 2.2 starter. When i start the car, i have to push the gas pedal and after 20-30 seconds the car runs good. When the engine is warm, the car starts good.

Is the Legacy 2.2 starter too slow for the svx engine? Can i use the svx starter too? (if yes, how would you modify the starter?)

Thanks!

Re: electrical questions after 5spd swap

Hi,

speed sensor doesnt work yet. But is it necessary for starting the car, too?

Greetings

Re: electrical questions after 5spd swap

If it weren't for the fact that his problem started at the same time as your transmission swap, I'd say that your coolant temp sensor is bad. The hard starting and fans running all the time is exactly what it does when that sensor is bad.

There are 2 temp sensors...a 1-wire that runs the gauge, and a 2-wire that runs the ECU......

Re: electrical questions after 5spd swap

The radiator fans are reliant upon the speed sensor information. So when the ECU sees there is no sensor hooked up, it will keep the fans on all the time

Re: electrical questions after 5spd swap

Hi,

ok it must be the speedsensor. I reseted the ECU and started the engine. The fans didnt run. When engine was warm, the fans turned on only for a short time (and everytime when engine became too warm). So i think, the water temp sensor is okay? Now I will check the speedsensor.

Greetings and Thanks!

Re: electrical questions after 5spd swap

Hi SVX guys ,

problem isnt solved yet .

I installed the speed sensor. fans working great now. When i check ecu error codes, i only get error 12 (the starter switch). so it cant be the temp sensor?

I try to describe my problem in detail. When the car is cold, i have to pump the gas pedal 3-5 times, and when i want to start the car i need to press gas pedal to get the car started (if i dont do it, the engine wont get fuel i think). then, after 10 seconds the engine try to start , rpm goes to 700-800 and the engine stops again. then, i try it again , and immediately when the engine goes up to 700 rpm, i press the gas pedal to reach 2000 rpm. after 5 seconds the ecu control the A/F and rpm is normalizing.

When the engine is warm, and i want to start the car, i have to press only abit the gas pedal, but the car runs immediately after i turned the starter on.

Could it be the fuel pump? When the engine started, the car drives as normal as ever. Is there a fuse for the pump?

When i turn ignition on, i cant hear the pump from back of the car.

Thanks in advance

Greetings

I used the N/A Impreza (model of donor car I used) starter and she starts right up every time.. no problems with fan on all the time Either... I would look into the relays as well. Just my opinion. But now that I have read on I see that issue has been fixed lolol.

You might check all your vacuum lines. I had kind of the same problem at first when I did my swap and found out that one of the main vacuum lines were disconnected from my intake. It wouldn't stay running all the time and then after I found the vacuum and hooked it all up it purrs like a kitten. Even though I have a sticky lifter now, but that another problem in itself... Gaaaa. Time to flush the motor and put some treatment in it.

Re: electrical questions after 5spd swap

Hi,

thanks! I will check that. I use a 92 Legacy 2,2 starter. When i turn on ignition, i hear the relays in the engine bay. But nothing from the back of car (fuel pump).

Greetings
