FYI: DIN is actually an acronym for Deutsches Institut für Normung, the German Institute of Standards. As Germany's ISO member, they have set/adopted a ton of standards which have been adopted internationally. As such, they have specified standards for commonly used connectors, such as MIDI and PS/2 cable connectors, as well as many other products, including paper! If you are musician, you are familiar with 1U, 2U, 3U, and 4U 19" rackmount sizes for effects and synthesizer modules, as well as rackmounted computer systems - DIN 41490-SC48D.

How do I know all of this crap? I'm a musician who designs and builds computer-based music systems, so I have to know what fits where and how, and what plugs into what. I use components from all over the world. I also happen to know about the DIN 476 A-sized paper standard because I have two infrared mini printers that use that weird sized paper, but it's thermal (fax) paper, which is an absolute b**ch to find for a reasonable price.
Anyway, just thought I'd answer your question.

Re: Want - GPS/DVD/Radio/stereo that fits.

Im going to get a 2 din screen with nav/dvd and all the bells ans whistles, and Im going to remove the plastic cover wich Im going to replace with a black translucent piece of acrylic/plexiglass with the same shape of the original cover, then Im going to paint all the console black so it will match. Now with when the stereo is on you'll see it trough the acrylic/plexiglass cover and you can always control it with the remote control. but when its off you wont see it trough making it completely stealth

And if you need to open it ill have a hinge and some push release mechnism that allows you to inster CD or use the touchscreen... ill figure something out.

Nav isn't built in.

Alpine built this double-sized receiver with expansion in mind, including a dedicated dock for the Blackbird II portable navigation system. Simply flip down the motorized faceplate, and slide in the Blackbird II for instant navigation capability. You'll be able to see the navigation maps and enter commands through the IVA-W205's touchscreen. An external satellite antenna is needed to receive a signal.

Yeah I read all that, I just don't know if it's a good unit or not. I can get one for a really good price. But I don't know if it's gonna clear the flip door, so I might not be buying it.

Re: Want - GPS/DVD/Radio/stereo that fits.

any thoughts about the F series?

I like the nav built in without having to use a disc that's lame.

I almost would rather go with the other one that uses the garmin stuff. We use garmin stuff in the airplanes I fly, and their stuff is always crisp and very accurate. My dad also uses garmin as well as others as a land surveyor, so I'm familiar with their stuff that way too.

It turns out my old unit was not even connected properly, not even counting the lack of antennae. Lots of crossed wires. A friend helped me with this one and did a pretty pro job, soldering and heat wrapping the connections.
It just baaaaarely fits.

The sound coming out now is actually good enough that I am no longer considering getting new speakers.

Yeah that is a pretty sweet unit.

Also, this:
Mikey- says (2:28 AM):
I know why he wired the speakers like he did
Mikey- says (2:29 AM):
2 of the wires to one of the speaker out on the plug are missing
My guess is either he or someone he got it from stole it

Looks like I've been rocking a stolen stereo for about 5 years.

Re: Want - GPS/DVD/Radio/stereo that fits. Killjoy!

Kenwood looks good, Dani.

Could I be a slight killjoy and inject a note of caution here?

The position of the stereo/ICE unit in the SVX was designed before Sat Nav. It is too low on the dashboard for safety. If you spend a long time [even in seconds] looking at that screen, you are setting yourself up for a prang-up.

A sat nav screen for the SVX should be up on the dash somewhere, so your eye can be drawn quickly back to the road.

It will be OK if you close the door and listen to instructions, but if you do a lot of map reading while driving in that lower dash position, you will be a danger to yourself and other road users.

The Voice of Reason.

I cannot agree more Joe, you are right... But I might be doing something about (if I have time) to install such a unit and use it safely in the SVX
