Boyd Coddington passed away

he was a large part of hot rods, custom cars of course
and one West Coast originators of setting trends and keeping
the dream alive for many car nuts..

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080228/...t_coddington_4

and he had his ups and downs just like everyone else.
Sad to hear of his passing nevertheless so young.

Glad We Knew Ya

Yes, it's a very sad thing to hear about Mr. Boyd.
He will be sorely missed.
And, even though there is lots of new blood out there shaking the world of Hot Rods, the days of the Rat Fink, and Mr. Boyd are coming to a close. We can only hope that others will continue to keep the traditional flame going for a bit longer.

Sad for his family, after watching the shows of all 3 mentioned and having worked for troublesome people before I prefer the positive attitude of Chip Foose, there is more to life than cars.

didnt like the show that much, and despise dwayne more
then anything else, but did appreciate his style and many
of the cars he built.
One of the first that comes to mind was ZZ tops Cadzilla.
Im a bigger fan of Foose's accomplishments and ideas
but gotta give Boyd credit for keeping the dream alive on the
West Coast for all those yrs.

'Abrasives' are best put in the sandblasting cabinet. They did wonderful things with cars. I didn't watch a lot because I hate 'conflict'.

Ex wife in office, etc.

Long live George Barris!

My 'vision' was to replace 'Monster Garage' when they closed the doors. I dragged out all the raw materials and equipment, then I had my blow out. I had to sit and watch Chip build what I couldn't.

I'm 'low buck', but it works.... Chip and Boyd are/were icons, as long as the 'budget' was 6+ figures. 90% of my cars hit the street for under 4 figures!! Does that make me less of a 'builder', since I don't spend as much money on 'bling'? NO, That just means that I don't know as many 'rich' guys.

There's a lot to be said for the less known builders, yes. And there are some less known builders out there that can give the "big" guys a real run for reputation.

Then, there are the "Pimp" shows, and {in my opinion}, other trash vendors out there who make me wanna just follow one around for the chance to burn it to the ground. Talk about wasted effort, and funds.

I just happened to come up in the days of the Rat Fink, and have always had a great respect for the folks that can put out Rods. Whether they be high, or low budget operations.

Ahh, The Rat Fink!! 21 years ago, that Item was painted on the sides of a car the 2 brothers built. They cut up a trashed 48 Chevy sedan delivery, put a front clip from a 48 Pontiac and some coupe doors, installed a big block Chevy, Trans Am front suspension, stretched the whole frame and body 28 inches, then, after a 100 mile road test, drove it 1,500 miles (round trip) to the Street Rod Nationals in Tennesee. I have not seen that car for several weeks. (My brother had to pull it out of the garage so we could get some parts that were stored next to the wall.)

The sides have pictures of the rat fink drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette. The lettering has " Fat Rat Motel, Anywhere, USA"

DAMN!! That was 21 years ago??? It still runs the street rod circuit??

Must have been built by guys that KNOW what they are doing!

How does one link to youtube?? I tried, but get frustrated easily. I loaded a video of my 22 year old 'build' blowing mass quantities of tire smoke, but can't 'link' it.

47 Dodge burnout is the title feel free to link, if you know how. I'm too busy being frustrated to screw with it.
